Hobby Lobby

Ladies I was in Hobby Lobby this afternoon and for those of you that sew they have Simplicity patterns for 99 cents!  This is a fabulous price seeing as how they range in prices normally $11 and up.  They have a limit of 10 per checkout.

Also what Christmas stuff they have left is 80% off now.

Just thought I'd pass that along.

Re: Hobby Lobby

  • I'll have to check them out. I love Hobby Lobby!
  • Crap, if I could actually decide on a sewing machine, I'd take them up on that!  Any suggestions?

I got the Singer Simple for Christmas.  I haven't used it yet, but it did come with a how to DVD and I have been watching that and I am looking forward to using it.

Vanessa (vid) and several others recommended a Janome...I think my MIL ordered mine from Hancock Fabrics.  My sewing table just came in so I'm totally going to HL and getting some patterns to test out!

  • I will go by there on my way home in the am!  I saw some cute patterns for some scrubs last time I was browsing...and I can totally swing $0.99!!!
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I bought 4 of the patterns the other night.  I am hoping to go back and buy more.  I just grab what I like adult or kids at that price!  But I always stay away from a zipper, never tried it.  Maybe Amy will be brave enough and try it with me...
  • I got a Janome Magnolia 7312 I think. I don't remember the number exactly. I haven't started using it yet but I super excited about it! I will definitely be going to Hobby Lobby today after work!

  • Ok, this is really making me want to learn to sew! If I could make my own scrubs that would be great!  I'll have to give it some serious thought.

I SO want to get a new sewing machine, I have SOME "skills" but it's been a while.  If you buy a machine at Opelika Sewing center most of the time I think you get free lessons/class.

I'm so jealous of Amy's new machine but I have no where to put one, no time and need to get things in order first b/f I get one.... too many things going on!!!

  • What kind is it?  I'm looking online at the Janome's, but I really don't want to pay alot for one with me just getting started.

  • MIL got me a set of golf clubs for Christmas.  I told Rick that the money would have been better spent on a sewing machine.  That way I could make curtains and pillows.

    Maybe for my birthday...

Ditto this.  Every room in our house is full and we don't use or need most of it.  This is what I get for marrying a pack rat.Stick out tongue

Do you play golf?  Or was it just one of those random gifts?

  • We don't have a LOT of spare space, but the sewing table I got is pretty small and folds up if need be.

I'm going to HL at lunch for some patterns and maybe some fabric and plan on getting started this weekend.

I'll 3rd this.  I would love to buy a sewing machine/learn how to sew but there is simply not any space in my small house for one.

    Siggy coming soon....

No, I don't.  I attempted on a trip and found it to be tedious and boring.  The rest of the family golfs and I guess they feel like I'm left out or something.  I just don't want to play.

  • You don't have to have much space to sew!!  I have a tiny house and a tiny 2.6' x 2.6' table to work on in my tiny kitchen.  But I still run a small sewing business out of it.  Does it get crowed and messy, yes, but it works.  Unless you are going to be sewing a whole wardrobe everyday you can make your sewing machine work in a tiny space or house.  It is annoying to have a small space to work with, but don't let that stop you!

I got the sew mini Janome for Christmas so I can just get started.  I didn't want to commit to a huge expensive for a new hobby. Also, it is really light weight and DH bought me a little rolling suitcase thing to put it in and there is enough room to store pins, needles, thread box, ect.  I haven't used it yet but plan on taking everything to my Nanny's house for a lesson!

My ILs got me this one for Christmas http://www.hancockfabrics.com/Janome-8077-Computerized-Sewing-Machine-Janome_stcVVproductId48446267VVcatId542443VVviewprod.htm

And I went by HL on my lunch break and bought 6 patterns!

Vanessa - are you going to be around on Sunday?  I may try to get started then and am sure that I'll have a MILLION questions!

you know I know.  But I feel SO overcrowded and unorganized as it is.
When we get "where we are going to be" and that stupid condo sells, my reward will be a sewing machine and B's will be a flat screen TV.  I'm already saving now........

  • Amy - I will be around.  I've got several wholesale orders I have been putting off so I will be stuck doing them over the weekend. I need to make a new ironing board cover sometime soon, would you want to make one too?  It would be fun and they only take about 30 min to sew up!  What patterns did you get?

Katie - I love the reward idea!  Yall deserve it!

  • I got patterns for tote bags, window treatments, pillows, chair covers and table runners, and aprons :)  I want to make MIL an apron (she loves them)since she bought me the machine. I may want to do a ironing board cover...even though sewing ANYTHING intimidates me right now.  But I am so excited about it!
  • Well now I feel inspired, like I can do this too!  I just have to talk DH into it...
