Update from UAB appt....long

Hey everyone. I just wanted to update everyone on what is going on with the baby.

Ok, here is the novel.... :)
Her heart is healthy and strong.  She is gaining weight good and her
measurements are good.  Get this....she gained 7 ounces since Friday :)
My fluid and her fluid seems good.
The not so good.  She has two ureter tubes from her right kidney.  We are suppose to have one from each.  It is blocking the urine back up into the kidney and that is why they are enlarged.  This is something they can't do anything for right now.  After she is born they can start her on antibiotics for infection and then when she is a little older than can do surgery if they need to.  The dr. wants me to come back to UAB and see the urologist and let him sit in on another ultrasound.  He can answer more questions and see more details.  AS for her left kidney we aren't sure b/c she was laying on it and we didn't get a good picture of it.  It might have more than one tube.  We aren't sure.  She said if we would have not done ultrasounds we would have never known anything was wrong.  She would have been born and then maybe started running fever and having infection.  So now we know!!!!
This isn't a fatal/serious condition.  I asked and she was like no there is
less than 1% that this is life threatening.
So overall not the best news but not the worst.  I am glad to have a name
for it and a game plan.  The name is long and hard to say....I have never
heard of it.She did say this has got worse over the last 2-3 ultrasounds.  That is why they sent me to UAB.  They would also want me to bring her back to that same urologist 2 weeks after she is born for him to evaluate her.So now I am waiting to hear back about when they want me to go back to UAB to see the urologist.

Thanks for the prayers and thoughts.  We still need them coming our way!!

Re: Update from UAB appt....long

  • Thank God it's not life threatening!  You're right - it's so good to know what's going on and be prepared to handle it once she's born.  I'm so glad the news wasn't horrible.  Good luck on your next US.  I hope you guys can get a clear picture of both kidneys next time.
  • Well, I am happy for the strong heart!  And while I know it is distressing, you are right in feeling grateful that you have a name for what is wrong.  At least now your doctors know what to look for now and then once she is born.  I'll be praying for all of you!
  • Well I am glad that you know about it and can help to treat it when the time comes.  Good luck with further appointments and I'll keep ya'll in my prayers.
  • I'm glad you know now and they will be keeping an eye on her now, and also glad it's not life-threatening.  Keep us posted and I will definitely be thinking/praying for yall.
  • Thanks girls :)

I just want to be positive and not stress out b/c I know that can't be good for her or me.

I am ready to do fun stuff like doing her room and my showers.

  • Knowledge is everything and it seems like you and your doctors know what is going on and have a game plan!!  I will be praying for that sweet baby.

  • It's so good you know now Nicole and they will be prepared for when she arrives. Only good thoughts coming your way.   Just think positively and I'm sure they will take care of both of you.  Better to know now than not at all.

Hope they are able to find out more w/each step of the way.

  • Well I'm glad you got a little good news!  And it's great that it's not life threatening.  It's easier to know what going on and deal with it and move on.  I'll keep praying for ya'll.
    Siggy coming soon....
  • I'm glad you got good news with the heart!  It's great that you know what's going on now, and the doctors can be informed and take the best care of both of you possible.  You'll be in my thoughts!
  • I know it is a huge relief that they know what is going on....and are prepared to treat her after she is born!  Many hugs and good wishes for you and baby!  Keep us posted!
