Hi! I am thinking of moving to Tampa Bay area.
Reasons: more relaxed atmosphere, better quality of life, better weather (365 days of flip flops... hellooooo), cost of living, have family down there. And I'm really a beach babe trapped in a northerner's body. Honestly I think I was either born in the wrong part of the country or I lived in tropics in my former life.
I know you are going to ask where I am moving from. I currently live in NYC. WHY leave NYC you may ask? See above reasons! Seriously, NYC is great, but I am so tired of living here. And the suburbs (LI, Northern NJ, etc) are beautiful but don't appeal to me. I want turqoise waters and flowers!
Just wondering if any of you live/ have lived/ have experienced the TB area. I am interested in thoughts/ opinions, both good and bad.
I have visited, done research on neighborhoods, cost of living, job opportunities, etc. and so far I think it's a good choice. Just curious about your opinion.
Thanks!
Re: Relocate to Tampa? Need advice please!
I think you might get more response on the "West Coast Florida" board. Many of the ladies on there are from Tampa and St. Petersburg and the surrounding areas. This board is mostly Orlando and the surrounding areas.
I know there are some folks on here who used to live in the Tampa Bay area, though, so you may get some responses. I grew up in St. Petersburg and moved away when I was around 12. Going back as an adult, I'm really charmed by the place. It's a little smaller and slower paced than Orlando, but still has a lot of culture and things to do. The beaches there are great.
I've never lived in Tampa, but I know it's bigger and a little more urban feeling than St. Petersburg. (More relaxed than NYC, though, I'm sure!) I could be wrong but I don't think there are any beaches on that side of Tampa Bay, so you'd probably want to drive over to St. Petersburg or Clearwater for the beaches. (Not sure if that's an issue for you or not).
HTH! Good luck with your decision.
I loooove the Tampa Bay area. ?I lived there my whole life up until I moved to Orlando for college. ?I still visit my family and friends once a month or so.?I grew up on Treasure Island (a beach just outside of St. Pete) and would love to spend the rest of my life there. ?It's much slower paced than Orlando (and probably much much slower paced than NYC). ?It's not super busy or crowded, but populated enough that it's not far to a nice restaurant or movie theater. ?I would recommend St. Pete or the surrounding areas and leave Tampa to the occasional night life or mall visit. ?If you move to the beach, beware of tourists and old people, but that is just part of the charm, IMO
I like Safety Harbor in Tampa.
