Toddler Programs in SD?

My son will be 16 months by the time we move.. so i'm looking for some type of program to enroll him in to interact with other children, something that's a couple days a week for a couple hours a day.

Anyone know of any that's worth looking into?

I did find

Kinderhouse Montessori School

So, I was going to look into that one too..

(sorry the name is so big, I copied and pasted)

Re: Toddler Programs in SD?

  • Moontessori schools are really good. They have wonderful programs and usually very good on giving the children the one on one attention they need. I would tend to stay away from the more corporate centers, they have a very high "teacher" turn around and can have huge class sizes.   I am an in home daycare provider and that can be a good place to start.  It is a great environment for your child to have some interaction with other children and it is a small provider/child ratio, so they get all the attention they need. It is also a really good way for them to prepare for preschool.   If you are interested in looking into daycare let me know and I can recommend some wonderful referral sites.
  • Look into the Baldwin Academy. ?My friend's son started there when he was 2. ?I am amazed how much he is exposed to. ?They have a strong curriculum and good teachers. We are teachers, so we tend to be picky.

Yes. If you can send me some recommendations. Thank you.

  • And, are all of them at least $700.00 a month? That's outrageous!!

butting in here. . . it's even more expensive in minnesota.  my friend's in miami & told me how much it is to send her little girl to pre-school.  "holy crap!  florida's child care is so much cheaper!" was my response to her.

it'll be an adjustment to get use to the cost of some things here.  we pay a good $800 more for a 1000 ft2, 1b/1b apt than our mortgage for a 1840ft2 4b/2b home.  but it's worth it.  san diego is wonderful!

  • Hi!  Do you want recommendations for in home daycare or montessori schools? Let me know what area you will be looking in, and I can give you some referrals. The rates all depend on the area that you are going to be living in.  They vary from city to city.

Well, both if yuo could. We'll be living in the Lakeside area.

Does any churches have the types of program that i'm looking for?  I'm really wanting to stay away from a day care, but, if that's what I can find, then that's what I'll do.

I want something where he can learn, on top of being with other children his age.  I'm hoping to find something that has broken up age groups. (0-2) (2-3 yrs.), and so on..

  • It will probably not be what you are looking for, but the community college offers classes for moms and toddlers. ?They have one that meets in a classroom setting once a week and one that meets at various outdoor places throughout the semester. ?The outdoor class would be a great way to get to know different places to go with your little one as well a way to meet other moms.

  • The only Montessori school I know that is semi close to Lakeside is Scripps Montessori.  I worked there as an assistant while I was getting my degree.

I am not sure about churches.  Most larger ones do have some kind of preschool program.  I would just look into the ones you like once you move there.  If you are ever interested in a Family Daycare, I would check out the San Diego Family Child Care Association.  This is a wonderful organization that I belong to , they give free referrals for licensed providers in your area.
