Mortgage lenders

DH & I will be starting the buying process within the next 3-4 months and would like to start researching local mortgage lenders in the area.  I know one is NE Moves that a friend had used.  Do you ladies have any other recommendations that you trust in the area?  We'll also look into the bigger banks to compare as well.  Thanks!

Re: Mortgage lenders

  • We looked at Wells Fargo, BOA, Sovereign, and Webster and ultimately narrowed it down to either Wells Fargo and Sovereign Bank.  One day the rates dropped unexpectedly and our contact at Sovereign called us to let us know and suggested we lock.  Since she went the extra step she won our business.  We've been happy with them since.

We have accounts with BOA, so we were going with them, although we talked to many other local places (near Old Saybrook, not sure where you are in the state). BOA was able to give us the best deal at the time (rates were still high). The only complaint we had about BOA was that we had really bad service at some branches, and met wonderful people at the branch in the town I work. The reps at the other branches either wouldn't give us the time of day, or were giving us wrong information believe it or not. So if you do go with a bank, maybe try a couple branches to find a rep you work well with.

With the new low rates though, you may be better off with a small, local firm. We liked the personalized attention we received with local firms. While we ended up not even buying a house, we got a lot of good advice from one lender that we will use in the future.

    Good Luck!

  • I cannot recommend our mortgage broker highly enough. He was a miracle worker for us when we bought our house last spring. I'm not kidding.

Don't be alarmed by the fact that he works in Sturbridge. We were able to do everything via fax and email and it worked out great.
