Wolves and aging (spoilers)

So I just finished re-reading Eclipse again and this got me thinking about the aging issue.  So the wolves don't age as long as they are still shape-shifting, right?  But then when they stop phasing they start aging again.

How do you think this impacts their wives (or imprintees)?  For instance Sam is in his mid-20's (atleast body-wise) and I assume Emily is in her late teens or early 20s.  So what if the vampires are still around Forks for many years (as it sounds like they might be at the end of BD since everyone is in the "know" who needs to be), does Emily keep aging and Sam doesn't?  Would that be weird?   Or would Sam just stop phasing when Emily reachs the same age as him?  And then would Jacob be the Alpha?

And this got me thinking, since Jacob's with Nessie, does this mean he'll never stop phasing and will live forever since she'll live forever?

Re: Wolves and aging (spoilers)

  • Good point.  Not sure on the wives.

I did assume it meant Jacob would always phase so that he would live forever with that kid.

  • They mentioned it in the "stories" and that the first wolve guy had like 3 wives, because the other ones died because they aged and he didn't and it was the third wife who sacrificed herself when the evil vamp lady came and killed almost everyone.

But the "stories" didn't touch on the imprinting part and if you can imprint multiple times. I just kinda thought they could.

I do think it's weird if when your still accepting the wolve part and you don't age physcially but your wife is like 75 and you still look 25. Talk about a cougar...hahahaha

I forgot about the legends when they had more than one wife. That would really suck if your husband "replaces" you with a younger wife!!!

  • the whole point of imprinting too is to make stronger wolves for the future, so if they get their offspring from the first wife (the imprint), maybe they don't have to imprint again, the other wifes are just for fun...(?)
  • I love this question. I never thought about it too much, but I just assumed since the local vamps are now friends with the werewolves that they would stop phasing, except for Jacob, of course.

This is brings up another point, since Nessie is a half-vamp, she can't get pregnant, right?  So why would Jacob imprint with her?  That goes against SM's rules doesn't it?

You said it, she's half vampire, which means she's half human, she can totally have babies.

  • I would assume after awhile you could control phasing. I learned to just take things with a grain of salt with this series. Trying to use logical thought just ends up in confusion.
