Advice for a friend

My friend recently came out to us that she is a lesbian. We are excited for her, because she has never been happier. However she is looking for more friends in GLBT community. However she doesn't really know where to start looking. Are they any community groups that should look up or join? Any websites for her to join or checkout? Thanks so much!

Re: Advice for a friend

  • Well if your friend is in school I'd say check to see if the school as an LGBT club.  Also, check to see if her hometown has a GL community center.  Local chapters of PFLAG can also be a good source of information.  Gay bars?  It might seem stereotypical, but most of the bars will have the local gay newspapers and info about events.  HTH!

  • if she's in the cinci area (since i see that's where you got married), she can check out greatercincinnatiglbtnews.com, glbtcentercincinnati.com, or gaycincinnati.com for local info. if she's just looking to meet people, there's a website called outinamerica.com that has local pages for most major cities. they've got chat rooms, articles, etc. if she's in a different area of ohio i can offer some more suggestions, but other than that i'd say just do an internet search--and janet's suggestion about her school (if she has one) is great.
