I posted this in the Travel Board but I thought I would go right to the source and ask y'all!! Here is my original post...
My Mom is going to a work conference there in mid-March and I am going to meet her for the weekend and have some girl time!
I have been before but during the summer. It will still be pretty cold in mid-March, right?
With that in mind, can you recommend some things we can do and not freeze to death? We really want to go on some tours but the few I am familiar with (boat tour and double decker bus) seem like they would be miserable when its cold.
If it helps, we will be at the Westin on Michigan Ave.
EDIT: I already asked my mom and she isn't interested in the Field Museum or Shedd Aquarium.
Re: Chicago in March? (From Austin, TX Nestie)
mid-march is usually VERY unpredictable. we often get hit by snowstorms well into march, but it could be in the 50s the next day. i would stick to inside activities unless you see it's going to be a warmer day.
there are a lot of shows going on. check out broadwayinchicago.com
does she like art? there are rotating exhibits going on at the Art Institute as well as the MOMA.
if you are interested in cultural/historical events, check out architecture.org. they usually have interesting exhibits about chicago architecture/history throughout the year. also some neighborhood bus tours.
check out the chocolate bar at the peninsula hotel on weekends. make a reservation for this one....all you can eat gourmet chocolate dessers and drinks while you listen to live jazz music.
