Hi,
My DH, DD (2 y.o.) and I will be traveling to the LA area the first week of April for a friends wedding. He lives about an hour from LA (Victorville). We are planning to give ourselves 2 extra days during the trip to enjoy the area. We'd like recommendations of places within a 2 hour drive of Victorville. We've been to Carlsbad before and LOVED it. We are considering returning there during the trip to enjoy the beach/surf. Any other MUST SEE towns along the coast? Also, we need a recommendation for a good mountain town to hike in while we're there. We don't want to ask our friend for advice b/c he's BIG into touristy attractions (i.e. Disney, Legoland, etc) and we'd rather do outdoorsy stuff (i.e. beach, surf, hike, bike, etc). Please send me any recommendations. We'll have a rental car and will drive up to 2 hours each way for a must see location. Thanks.
Re: Cali recreation recommendations
if you're not into the touristy stuff (Disneyland-Anaheim, SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo) then maybe this might be cool...

hope that helps and have fun in Cali!
Big Bear lake is about 2 hrs from Victorville. Not sure if there is still snow in april, but if not, then the lifts are still open and you can go up and rent bikes and bike down (or go back down on the lifts). I'm sure there is some great hiking up there too. Up on the slope, you get a great view of the lake. Here is some more info.

Also you will be there for the lancaster poppy festival, which is just incredible. You can go hiking up the trails, and you just see fields of orange - just beautiful. It's about 45 mins from victorville.
