Tell me about your reception location, please!

I'm a MOH in my best friend's wedding. She is looking for a venue that is either:

1) allowing wedding parties to bring in their own caterers and/or alcohol
2) less than $25/pp

She's looking in the Central FL area. I got married in St Pete, so I can't help her, really. Any ideas/hints/leads?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Tell me about your reception location, please!

  • A friend of mine had a similar request a couple years ago and we ended up having her ceremony and reception at the Maitland Arts Center. (http://maitlandartcenter.org/general.htm)  It was beautiful, didn't require much decoration and very affordable.  You might want to check on the knot boards as well...several of those girls are having very budget-friendly weddings.  Good luck!
  • I had my reception at the Winter Park Farmer's Market.  You had to bring in all your own vendors, which ended up saving us a lot of money.  It is very reasonable to rent.  Email me at joeyme1 at yahoo dot com if you would like more details.
  • Not sure about the venue, as we had to use set vendors, but Magic Occasions did our cake, and we would have used them for catering if we could - and the prices are very reasonable.  Good luck!
  • I had my reception in one of the buildings in Baldwin Park that the residents can (or at least could) reserve. the building is called Grace Hopper Hall.  Its a really pretty two story buildings with columns out front and a pool in the back.

There were table and chairs for us to use for free and there is also a small kitchen that you can use.

I got married in 2005 and I know the girl who lived there gave a $1000 check as a deposit and when the checked it out and said it was ok, they gave it back to her so it was free :).

Maybe if you know someone who lives in Baldwin Park, they can maybe see if that's still an option.  It was very pretty (we did have to decorate it ourselves but I am sure if you hire a catering company, you could probably work that into the deal too).

I just googled it, here is a picture of the building: http://www.baldwinparkfl.com/web/amenities.asp  its Grace Hopper Hall.

  • Thanks ladies... keep them coming :)

Ditto magic occassions.  They catered our rehearsal dinner and also did our wedding cake.  They are AWESOME!  Very reasonable priced and the food was delicious.

  • Mine was at the Winter Park Civic Center and it turned out to be a great choice. We couldn't have been happier with them.

There's a few pics in my bio. I can send you more - email me at dcu32c@yahoo.com

BTW - I chose the wrooooong caterer, email me for details if interested.

  • My sister had her reception @ Lake Receptions in Mt Dora. She had a desert reception and i'm not sure who did the deserts, but she did have an outside caterer bring in a wedding cake.
