Prenatal Vitamins

I just started taking prenatal vitamins this week and they really upset my stomach. Anyone else have or had this problem? I don't want to stop taking them, but don't want to feel like this every morning. I do take it right after breakfast.  Any suggestions?

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

  • Maybe try a different brand . . .   I take something- Valley.  Maybe "Nature's Valley" or "Earth's Valley."

I take mine right before bed (I didn't want to feel sick during the day, if they were going to bother me).  I haven't had a problem.  But I do have a tough stomach--my poor sil had a terrible time with the vitamins!  GL!!

  • I take them at night; have with TTC both times and when pg both times.  They haven't bothered my stomache that way so I would try that first.
  • I took the Target brand ones while TTC and PG and had no issues with them and have heard good things from other people as well. Cheap and easy on the tummy.
  • My dr suggested taking Flintstones instead when that happened to me. I didn't have a problem with them and still take them now.  I took that plus extra folic acid- just ask your dr if it has enough of whatever you need. GL!
  • a lot of times, doctors will suggest / allow like the Flinstone vitamins during the first trimester if you are feeling sick from them....

  • I take a generic prescription for Pre Natals.  (Natal RX maybe?) and I only pay $4.00 or so for 3 months worth!  They have never bothered my stomach, and I take them at night before bed along with my other vitamins.
  • I take mine before going to bed.  It seems to botter me less.  First few weeks they started givng me heartburn but it started going away after the first few weeks.  No problems with them now.  Good luck!

  • My OB's office (Women's Care of Nashua) specifically told me I did NOT have to take PNVs, as long as I was taking folic acid.  I was very nauseous in the beginning (no m/s, just bad nausea) and so whenever I inquired about starting PNVs, they told me that they would make the nausea worse and "anyway, the only thing that makes a PNV so is the FA ... so as long as you're eating properly, you really don't need to take them."  I was eating properly and did throughout my entire pregnancy, took the max amount of FA every day, and my baby was born perfect.

If you want to continue taking them (I am going to next time, before we even TTC again), my suggestion would be to try taking them at night.  A friend of mine did that and it made a big difference for her most of the time.

A final suggestion is stop taking them until your m/s clears up.  Then resume.

    Good luck!!!  =)

  • I take the Target brand + extra folic acid (only necessary for me since I am having two) and they do not bother me at all.
  • I take the Target brand at night and, surprisingly since I am still throwing up fairly regularly, they have never bothered me!
  • I too take the target brand and at night on a non-empty stomach.

good luck. sorry you're feeling sick!
