Tell me about Nashville/ Franklin

Hi!

I'm from the Wash DC board and wanted to get some info on the Nashville/Franklin area.  MY husband is considering appling for a job with in his company.  The job is is Nashville.

1.  What's the area like?

2.  Family friendly?

3.  We would rent the first year.  How much does a 4 bed/3bath rental in a nice area go for?

THANKS!

-Mary

Re: Tell me about Nashville/ Franklin

  • Franklin in general is a very nice area, it and Brentwood are probably the two wealthiest areas in greater Nashville outside some pockets of Metro like Belle Meade.

Franklin is very family oriented. I would hate living here if I was single or a DINK, but it is great for kids. Lots to do.

Look at Realtracs.com but I think the average house in Franklin is probably about 300k, you get them for less and for a lot more.

I know there are rentals in my hood that are going for about 2200 but that includes access to the residence club, swimming pools and your cable/internet.

  • The area is very friendly, there are lots of things to do. DH & I are DINKS who live in Franklin. We love it here, but we're not big fans of an urban lifestyle. Downtown Franklin has a very historic feel with lots of unique/non-chain shopping. $2200 sounds about average for a 4BR/3BA rental in Franklin. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask.

BTW, we moved here from the DC area about two years ago.

  • What are DINKS?

Well....I guess it just depends what you are looking for. Everyone seems to be moving to Franklin & Brentwood now. It's a lot different than when we moved here. It is not what we like so much anymore, but a lot of people like it here. It is becoming very trendy. A lot of young & wealthy families. Average home price is closer to $359,000. Taxes in Williamson county are higher. The schools here are the best in the state. It is one of the top 10 safest places to live. It is about a 25 minute drive to Nashville.?

  • DINK = Double Income, No Kids

Basically both people work, no kids so there's more disposable income.

Love Nashville, but i don't live in Franklin and can't help you there.  Nashville is enough big city and enough smaller town.  People who like to get out and have fun, but also people who can be a wee bit spoiled (golf claps at rock concerts?  SPOILED).  Good parks, good roads (mostly), good employers, good homes, good cost of living.

  • Oh....well then we're DINKS!?

Although....my horses eat up pretty much all my disposable income! :D We don't have kids, so the animals are our kids! ?

  • There is a great website called "City Data" (I think) that you can find lots of message boards and info as well. ?Good luck! ?I don't live in Franklin, but I live in Nashville, and I love it.
