Are any of you in the communication or PR field? It's the field I want to be in (my degree is in comm) and my current position is a dead end that doesn't feel like it's accomplishing anything that can be applied to that field. I was doing some marketing stuff, editing ads, etc but the company is about to hire outside advertising agencies.
I guess I just want suggestions of companies to look at around here (I'm looking for anything from Auburn to Columbus, ga) and things I can do in the meantime so that I'm not just wasting time as a glorified secretary.
Madelyn- I saw your reply yesterday from D&R
Re: Auburn girls...
Hey you!!! Definitely look on AU's website and if you can do their temp hire, a lot of times they do those positions w/the potential of full time hire. Also there are the radio stations, newspapers, etc. Probably the same in Columbus (but I would NOT recommend the commute as you well know!!! ha).
Good luck girlie and I'll email you when I get back from my trip.......

This is true but the network is seasonal unless they need someone full time is my understanding. My friend worked there during football season and was let go at the end of the season. Now she's struggling to find something.
Also, there's Craftmaster and other places like that. What I've done is gone onto the member listing on the Chambers website and gone to all the websites that are listed that have anything to do with anything that I'd be remotely interested in. Just a thought.
Check the OA News as they list jobs too. Make sure you have everything out on all the job sites - indeed.com, monster, yahoo hotjobs (they are the same now), etc.
HTH!!! You know I'm doing the same thing......
I graduated with my degree in PR. I am the Area Director of a national Non-Profit. Right now, we don't have any open positions. A really good place to start would be the local chapter of the Public Relations Council of Alabama. I am on the board of the organization, and it's a group of 50+ PR professionals in Lee County. We meet once a month at Saugahatchee Country Club at noon and have a speaker in the field of PR. Our meeting this month is Wed, Jan. 28. I would be more than happy to get you more info. You can go to www.eaprca.com to find about more too.
In terms of PR jobs that may be open...I think the Opelika Chamber may be hiring someone soon. I know that the director has in the past leaned toward hiring someone from Opelika but not sure if she will stay that route. Over the holidays, I saw where Habitat for Humanity listed an opening for a director here. You may want to touch base with them and see if they are still looking. I will keep my ears open but most of the onres I hear about are through PRCA.
