Selling old jewelry?

Has anyone sold there old gold or silver jewelry?  I saw something on Rachel Ray for a company called Red Swan that buys your old silver and gold jewelry for cash.

I was gonna check if my jeweler does it but I don't know if all jewelers buy stuff to melt down.

Does anyone know

Re: Selling old jewelry?

  • I saw that on Rachael Ray this morning, too, and I'm also curious.
  • I've heard/ seen things about it, too. I see ads on TV all the time for Frank's Jewlers in the Shore Mall. Also, I'm pretty sure that Littman and Robbin's buy back jewlery, too. Before trading it in, I would recommend getting quotes from a few places to see who gives the best price. Regardless, you'll probably never get back the true worth of it. I have some old jewlery, too, that needs to go so I'll probably start looking into it soon.
  • If you want a good price for your jewelry,  don't go to a jeweler!  They always lowball like crazy,  and will show every flaw they can possibly think of.   That why I hate the Frank's Jewelers commercials,  because you know he is preying on people's poverty.

If you are willing,  ebay or antique stores are a better bet.  But like eb629 said,  go to a couple places to appraise it first.  When they aren't trying to buy it,  they are a bit more fair.

  • I just ordered the package from Red Swan that was on Rachel Ray this morning...they are in PA and they send you a check in less then 2 weeks and if you want the jewelry back b/c you don't like the amount given you can call them when you get the check and they'll send it back
  • My mom just took a whole bunch of old and broken gold chains to Mullica Hill jeweler and got hundreds of dollars.  It's totally worth it if you'll never wear it again or if things are broken.
