Wine tasting/Disneyland Q

Hi ladies,

I'm a NorCal nestie and I'm trying to plan a trip for a bunch of girlfriends from around the country.  They love the idea of going to Disneyland but also of going wine tasting.  Is Santa Barbara/Solvang/that area the closest good wine tasting region?  I'm hoping to find something closer, otherwise we'll probably have to choose between the two.

TIA!

Re: Wine tasting/Disneyland Q

  • DH and I went to Temecula for wine tasting. I'm pretty sure it's closer to Disneyland, since it's in Orange County! We had a great time at "A Grape Escape" a winery/hot air baloon ride. It's great, but you have to get up early. However, they end with some free champagne. YUM! There are about 20 different balloons that go up from different wineries in the same area.

  • I definitely definitely recommend a day trip to Solvang and Los Olivos.  YOu have to go to Los Olivos, its only 20 min from solvang. Its the CUTEST town with tons and tons of tasting rooms.  They have an amazing restaurant there for lunch.  I can't remember the name, but the town is super small, and you'll figure it out becuase its the only place with a big line and reservations.  We always go there first upon arrival, make a lunch reservation.  Its a great way to sober up.  One of my absolute favorite wineries is in that town.  Its called Alexander and Wayne.  They have a red collection that is to die for and most of the bottles are between 14-30.   We actually signed up for their wine of the month club.  I have yet to drink a bottle i didn't like.   Our friends rave about the wine when they come over for dinner.  We usually wine taste and then have lunch at that restaurant.... also theres the cutest coffee shop off the main road to stop and have some coffee.  Then after lunch we go over to solvang and shop.  Solvang is more about shopping.  The much better tasting rooms are in Los Olivos.
  • Temecula is a little closer than the SB area. I prefer the SB/Solvang wineries though and ditto the rec to visit Los Olivios.
  • I haven't been to any of the SB wineries, but Temecula has a few wineries and I believe it is a bit closer to Disneyland than Santa Barbara. I loved Mount Palomar, it was really chill and not as crowded as the other ones, but as far as the wines, it was ok. Everyone likes the almond champagne from Wilson Creek, it is good :)
