You peeked my interest in Lynchburg so I have been doing a lot of research and I am really, seriously considering it!
Did you say you have kids? I need to find out which elem. schools are the better ones, break down areas, daycares, ect. Are there any websites you would recomend?
I am planning on making the trip up there soon after I have this baby, so any extra info would help. thanks!

I don't have kids but there are certain schools that are just demographically in better areas. Lynchburg has a very good reputation with its schools (I live in the county though, so our kids will unfortunately miss out unless they are like me and go to the city high school anyway!). Right now they are having some serious budget cuts due to the economy but still...they have an enormous budget to begin with.
As far as websites, definitely check Lynchburg MLS for housing and I think, this is the government website http://www.lynchburgva.gov/ and then http://www.lynchburgonline.com/ has a lot of great resources (you may have found these already)
Elizabeth Early Learning Center is a popular day care closer to old downtown. My favorite section of Lynchburg would be downtown and Rivermont Ave and if you live there, kids go to Linkhorne Elementary and Middle, and then EC Glass. I definitely recommend Glass (I went there!) over Heritage High (it still ranked though in US News and World Report).
