Alaska or Bust!
Hello ladies! I'm hoping you all can help. DH and I want to try to go to Alaska at the end of May for 10 nights.
What do you recommend as the "do not miss" sights and activities?
We live in Miami, FL...so naturally we want to do it all. lol. When are we ever going to get another chance?

I lived in AK for 22 years before moving to MD...you can feel free to email me w/ specific questions at asead3 at uaa dot alaska dot edu but just a quick run-down:
Look into fishing charters out of Homer
Seward is a cute town and you could check out the Seward Sea Life Center
No one ever mentiones Hope, but I grew up camping in this itty bitty town (think...10 kids max, maybe 50 people) and love it. My grandpa helped restore the old United Methodist church there that is now rented out as a cabin (running water and heat and some old couches, but nothing much beyond that).
Girdwood is a small ski town (google Alyeska Ski Resort) that has two great restaurants - Chair 5 (pizza/beer) and Double Musky (more $$, kinda New Orleans style food) and some great hikes (Winner Creek Trail is my favorite).
In Anchorage (where I grew up) you could hike Flattop, I'd also suggest driving to Pt. Wornzoff - it's on the water and you can watch the plans come in, great view, it's awesome. My favorite restaurants in Anchorage are - Moose's Tooth and Bear's Tooth (same owners - similar menus of pizza, beer, sandwiches, salads, etc. but Bear's Tooth is a movie theater as well), Glacier Brewhouse (seafood, steak, pasta, yum!), Orsos (Italian), Simon and Seaforts...almost all of those restaurants should have websites you can google.
Definitely Mt. McKinley/Denali National Park is worth checking out. You should also look into the Alaska Railroad, they do tours and such that would be worth looking into.

No, we're not planning on going on a cruise, but if you can recommend a "day cruise" or something similar, I would love to try that.
