Weird...

So I'm off work today and I'm sitting at home just looking some stuff up online when the doorbell rings. Our doorbell never rings except on weekends when DH's family is down the street visiting his grandparents and occasionally stop by our house. Anyway, so I look through the peep hole and I don't recognize the guy, so of course I didn't answer it. Then he opens the screen door and knocks on the main door and then stood there for a few minutes and rang the door bell again. I was freaked out at this point but then he walked over to the windows and looked like he was trying to see in! OMG!! I'm freaked out at this point but can't move because (for some reason) the blinds in the front bathroom are open and he will see me if I try to go back to the bedroom. So I stood there until he got into his gold truck, in which he sat there for a few minutes before driving off.

OMG!!! I'm scared to be home right now! I'm kind of paranoied as it is so this isn't helping.

Has anyone ever had a similar experience? We live in a good neighborhood and DH keeps telling me that it will be ok and not to worry, but I can't help myself.

(Thanks for just letting me babble for a few...I'm going to go hang out at La Cantera until Grant gets home! lol)

Re: Weird...

  • That would freak me out, too! Whoever it was had no right to look in your windows! It was probably some desperate door-to-door salesperson. We had an AT&T salesman that came by our house 3 times in one afternoon!

  • Don't freak!  He was probably a solicitor.  Get a big dog, my Great Dane scares everyone away!

Last week I actually answered the door (I don't usually but I was sure the guy saw me) and he was backing up, saying "don't let him out" or something - pointing to my Dane.  I said very seriously, "well, you'd better go, he's really mean".

    :o)

  • That would freak me out too. I don't answer anymore when I'm home alone unless I can see who it is without them seeing me because last year I answered and it was this weirdo "college kid" who was selling magazines and would not leave even after I said I wasn't interested.
  • I don't answer the door, either unless I know there is someone coming over. For some reason, the former owners never had a peephole put in the door and if they are standing right in front of the door, I can't see them through the window. We're replacing this door at some point!

  • If that ever happens again, just shout through the door that you are not answering the door, and if they don't leave immediately you'll consider it trespassing and call the police.

Or just put a peephole in the door!

Ha ha.....yeah, that probably would be a lot cheaper!

  • That would completely unhinge me. I hate opening the door even when my hubby is home. I don't do it here much. Of course living across from a major college campus we get a lot of people who think they can come to our door and ask about parking in our driveway and such. I rarely think about answering. I wish we had MORE than just a tiny peep hole though...I would rather be able to see more than just a small unclear object. I have thought about getting a window with one way glass in it but our doors are steel so there is no way to really accomplish that. Oh well...maybe some day we will be able to move to a new place and get doors like I want since I didn't have a say in these. I hope all is well!
  • I don't wanna freak you out more but my coworker had a bad experience like that. When the guy looked through her window he saw her kids and kept telling them "tell mommy to open the door" Anyway, she reported him to the police and they said that he had been reported before for the same thing, but that when women would open the door he would force his way in the house by overpowering them. Be careful, this guy would wear a lawn service shirt to make the women think that he was just wanting to offer his lawn services. Just be careful!

I remember that on TV! I think it was happening on the NW side at the time. I have no idea if that guy was ever caught!
