Bank or Broker for Refi...

Does it really make a difference?

Re: Bank or Broker for Refi...

  • Maybe I'm biased because I work for a bank, but I truly think a bank is better.  Banks are more tightly regulated than mortgage brokers.  That's where a lot of people (including my BIL) got into trouble--brokers made promises and then came to the table with a worse deal and said, "Oh we'll refinance you out of this in a little while.  This is just to get the ball rolling."

If you do your research, you can find just as good of a deal with a bank as a mortgage broker can, and then you don't have to pay the extra fees to the broker for setting up your deal.

As with any case, I'm not trying to speak ill of all mortgage brokers, but a few bad apples spoiled the reputation of the whole bunch.
