Hi -
In your post below you mentioned that you prefer potty seats over chairs. I fully agree  (just for the cleaning issue alone! lol)

What I am curious about is... What about smaller kids? Marley is teeny-tiny and there's no way she could sit herself up there alone. We aren't at the point of communicating when needs to go, but usually she runs away and gets really quiet when she's doing her business. I'd like to stick her on there when I notice, but not sure if it's worth the effort this early. Should I buy a step-stool?

Any thoughts? I'd love to hear your feedback.

TIA

  • Besides being super cute, she's teeny tiny!! She is beyond adorable!

I don't think potty chairs are realistic.  The truth of the matter is you are NOT going to have one every where you go and yes, the hygeine of them just freaks me out.  That being said, I would definitely invest in an easy to move step stool and a potty seat (they fit over the toilet so that she doesn't "fall in").  With those two things she should be able to do it.  I say the easy to move stool so that she can push it over to the sink to wash her hands after or in case someone moves it to use the toilet she can easily move it back.

When does Marley turn 2?  I would say if you notice that she's going off to do her thing, take her to the potty and see if you can get her to go.  If she does you have to make a HUGE production out of it ... give her a treat, call daddy at work, call grandma, do a dance ... something!! But make a big deal out of it so that she'll want to do it again.  Also, at bath time when you take off her diaper put her on the potty while you run the bath water (the running water often times enocourages them to go).

Feel free to ask questions .... we've assisted potty training lots of kids (8 this year so far)!

  • Thanks so much for the great response ( and compliments on my lil rug-rat!)

Marley is going to be 2 at the end of March. I thought about getting the potty seat now so she's used to seeing in the bathroom and occasionally put her on it (like for the bath, etc). Then when she's two, I'd like to really make a 100% effort.

I LOL'd out loud at making a big deal when she uses it. There was an episode of Jon & Kate + 8 where one of the kids pooped and Kate screamed, clapped and took a pic of the kid next to it. I died laughing and thought it was the grossest thing ever. But now I see it through totally different eyes. HAHA!

Thanks again for your advice. I really appreciate an "experts" opinion! ?image

I'm off to shop for a step stool! Have a great weekend!

  • Ok I'm dying over here ... I very rarely watch Jon & Kate +8 but I have seen that episode!!! I think she took it a little far with the picture! hahah I also couldn't believe that she, of all clean freak people, would use a potty chair!

    Have a good weekend!
