Tell me about WI

A possible relocation may be in our future.  Please recommend nice areas to live around Green Bay within 45-60 min. where dh's job may be.  Where would you recommend?  What do you know about the area and what are some highlights/drawbacks?

Re: Tell me about WI

  • There are a lot of nice areas in and around GB (I grew up in GB).  There are tons of new subdivisions going up on the far east side (towards Door County, by UWGB).  We went on the Fox Valley new home tour last winter and there are a lot of nice homes in the Appleton, Neenah area.  Appleton seems to have a little more draw in terms of things to do, cultural things and restaurants, shopping, etc.
  • i don't know where you are from but people don't really commute 45-60 minutes to work in Green Bay. its not that kind of a city.?

  • Actually, his job would be in Franken.  So where would be a nice area to look a home to buy or rent?  Appleton looks great and everything that we're looking for (from what I've seen online) but dh says it's too far.

  • Do you mean New Franken?  If so, check into the far east side of GB like I mentioned or in Bellevue (lots of new development there as well).  It would probably be about a 40 minute commute from Appleton to New Franken.
  • I agree - you wouldn't really have to go much farther than Green Bay to "commute".  Appleton might be kind of far, although I'm not really familiar with how you'd get to New Franken from Appleton except via Green Bay anyway. LOL

Green Bay's an alright town... it's definitely not "big city" feel, and the nightlife can be a little on the low side.  However there are several areas with lovely homes for very reasonable; just be careful to look at what school district you'd wind up in.  From what I've heard, the East side schools are very overcrowded and they haven't found a solution to that yet.

  • I would suggest the Appleton area....great to raise a family I think. It's not too far from GB.
