vaporizer vs. humidifier

Does anyone know what the difference is?  We have both but are unsure when to use which for what kind of illness the baby has.  Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: vaporizer vs. humidifier

  • The difference is that vaporizers heat the water and use steam to put moisture in the air.  Humidifiers cool the water before releasing it.  When I worked in daycare, we always used cool mist humidifiers, because they are safer around children and less likely to breed germs.
  • We use a cool mist and it's called a vaporizer on the box LOL

With either machine though, it's standing water in the tank and has to be emptied daily when the unit isn't running. We made the mistake of leaving the water in one night we didn't use it and it really smelled musty and mildewed the next day. I wound up taking the whole thing apart and cleaning it before using it again.
