Taxes? I am still learning.......
Did you take the standard deduction or did you itemize? Do you own your home? If your a first time home buyer do you know about the 7500 tax credit?
Re: Taxes? I am still learning.......
We own our home and we itemize, but that's because DH is self employed, so we have a ton of business deductions as well as my medical stuff that is usually over the standard deduction amount.
I have no tips for you, as we use an accountant to do our taxes, after I screwed up our 2006 return and had to pay MO $1300. Luckily, our accountant caught this in 07 and we were able to refile and get money back.
Hi Mrs.Huey!
I'm a tax accountant so I can try to help you with lots of your questions. If you own your own home it is probably worth your while to itemize your deductions. You will need to fill out a Schedule A to itemize your deductions. If you purchased your home towards the end of the year it may not be a benefit to itemize for 2008 but will probably provide a benefit to itemize in 2009.
I assume there will be a specific form you will need to fill out if you are claiming the first time home buyers tax credit. I haven't seen the new forms for the year yet but if you are using Turbo Tax or Tax Cut they should be asking you questions about home purchases.
