Restaurant Suggestions

Husband and I are going out on Friday and I need some restaurant suggestions.  I'd like to go to a nicer place but I'm really not a fan of chains.  I love finding restaurants off the beaten path like Deluca's or Tavern or Spags.  Any suggestions??

Re: Restaurant Suggestions

  • Depending on where you wanted to go, I would suggest English Inn in Eaton Rapids is really nice, but it's more for an anniversary type dinner.  I know that you said Spag's, but have you tried Spagnuolo's in Williamson?  I love that place!  I've heard mixed reviews about the Golden Rose in Mason/Okemos.  Emil's in Lansing is good, if you like Italian.  Gilbert and Blake's in Okemos has good food.  I also know that you said you didn't like chain restaurants, but have you tried Carrabba's on the West side of town..  Yummy food!  I think that's everything that I can think of that is nicer

  • Oooooooh English Inn is so good! Get the French Onion soup: delicious!!!

  • Yeah we thought about the English Inn, but its about 45 minutes from where we live.  Not sure I want to spend an hour and a half from date night in the car, ya know?

  • The Golden Rose is good. And has excellent wine!

Ooohh... how I want a bottle of wine right now...

  • I don't really have any suggestions but enjoy your date night! Hope you two enjoy your night out together.
  • What about Dusty's Cellar in Okemos? I've never been, but I've heard great things about it. A little pricey from what I've heard (from the website, looks to be about $20-30 per entree), and you'd most likely need a reservation (especially for a Friday). But all I've heard are raves.
  • Sorry that I have no suggestions since I live on the West side. I haven't even heard of some of these places, let alone actually go there. lol  There is an awesome Italian place in GL though, Cuginos!
  • Gilbert and Blakes...Yum!  I would also recommend Dusty's Tap Room in okemos. We like Emil's on Michigan Ave in Lansing....we live blocks from there and get take out occasionally.

  • It's funny, I'm actually not a fan of Emil's, but DH loves it!  I just think their spaghetti sauce is kind of bitter, almost a burnt type taste. DH really likes their beer and cheddar soup.
  • I second Cuginos its my fave! Plus if you both tend to like the same pasta dish they will split it for you (for a very small fee) becuase it is certainly enough food for two people.
