Another Charleston Rec Q: Where to stay?
DH and I are planning a trip in early March for our anniversary. We are considering going to Charleston.
We want to stay somewhere nice and clean, but it does not have to be luxury or the most prestegious plantation Charleston has ever known.
Really my main priority would be a prime location where we could step out of our room and be near many things we would enjoy while we are there.
Any recs?
Also, is MoPed a good way to get around in Charleston? (I fell in love with riding a MoPed in Key West and am always looking for an excuse to rent one.)
Re: Another Charleston Rec Q: Where to stay?
Unfortunately, mopeds are not rented in Charleston. The big thing down here would be carraige tours of Charleston. There is a main area of downtown where mostly everything is located which is near the open air market (market street & east bay st) then a road down (about a block) there is king street where all the boutiques/shops are located. So, long story short activity wise everything is pretty much located within one specific area. There are numerous hotels in that area, but a historic one that is in that area (right on market st) is the Planters Inn; which is known for a couples hotel and not marketed for families by any means and correct me if Im wrong, I beleive Bon Jovi has stayed there.
There are many places, The Charleston Place Hotel, The Francis Marion, The Mills House are some others that are more popular hotels in the historic district (clean & nice). Im not sure what the rates are right now, but I mean with the economy & that it would still be in the down season Im sure you can find a good deal.
Am I doing something wrong? I went to the site: http://www.andrewpinckneyinn.com/# and it is quoting the cheapest rate at $219 a night. (We would be there for 2 nights, March 6th and 7th.)
Maybe it just has to do with our dates and it being a weekend?
$219 isn't bad, but $90 is obviously better haha.
Thanks, we'll give them a ring!
