AW: $ Update

As you all know I'm really focused on my budget and paying down debt/saving money.  This weekend was a great $ weekend.

1) I heard cable (cable, phone and internet) rates are going up next month.  So I called our company and locked in a rate $14 lower than my current rate.  Once the hike goes into effect I'll be saving $22 a month.  So happy!

2) I finished paying off our fancy shamcy lawn mower.  It was on our Sears card with 0% interest so I paid $60 a month.  That bill is now gone and done!

3) I'm rocking the coupons/sales.  During my previous two grocery shopping trips I've saved nearly 50% off the what the retail value was.  How cool is that?

  • Way to go! I don't have any cc and have no plans on getting any. I pay with cash. Great way to start the new year!
  • That's great!
  • That's awesome!!  Where do you get your coupons?
  • I also wanted to add that planning a menu has helped me keep our grocery bill down.  So thanks for that!
  • 50% on your grocery bill??? WOW! that with the cable and sears bill - you are rockin it!  good job :)

From the Sunday paper.  I bought a 12 week subscription for a very discounted price.

I'm having so much fun planning a menu based on the grocery ads and my coupons.  For example:  yesterday I my snack popcorn (my late afternoon work snack) was on sale BOGO and I had a coupon for $1 off of 2.  So I got two, for less than the price of one.  Also, K has been asking for sloppy joes...well the mix was on sale this week for $0.99 and I had a $0.50 coupon. Woo- hoo!

The hardest part is making sure I'm not buying stuff only because I have a coupon, but instead because we will use it/need it.

I need to do this with our cable company.  I originally did the bundle package (cable/phone/internet) for $124 - but it has crept up to $180! I need to do something about that.

That was our situation too.  It started at $133 and was up to $156.  Now I'm locked in at $119 (plus tax...so about $129) for 2 years.  I'm glad I called because the rate hike next month is $8.  I'd definitely suggest calling and asking for the current lowest rate.

  • woohoo! we got our cable bill lowered when we signed up for hd because the company was having a sale. we're paying around $15 less a month than we were for regular service. that's awesome you're saving so much! that's $264 in savings for you just for the first year, $528 over the two year contract. go you!

hooray for paying something off! we didn't actually pay anything off, but we transferred the balance from one card with a high interest rate to another with a balance transfer special. we still owe the same and have the same cards, but we'll be paying significantly less in interest which is always good. of course, it means i probably won't make my goal of paying that card off by the end of the year but it's the only revolving debt we have.

don't you love saving at the grocery like that? we always make our shopping list based on what we have coupons for and what's on sale and we often save close to that. it's awesome!
