Anybody live in Northridge or North Hills??

My husband and I are looking to buy a house..there is a school affiliated with my church in northridge that we are intersted in for our daughter..so we thought we'd check out the area...I know nothing about these towns, or anyone who lives there, so I thought I'd ask here..of course, we are going to drive around ourselves too and we will check out the listings our agent sent us.

?We currently rent in Sherman Oaks..I work in Burbank, and my husband works in Century City, we we know we will have to do some driving..but it may be worth it for affordable housing, and a good school????

Thanks for your input! :)?

Re: Anybody live in Northridge or North Hills??

  • DH & I live in Northridge.  We have a condo and opted for one in our town vs the single family homes in near by North Hills.  Not fact, but in my honest opinion, Northridge appreciates at a better rate than North Hills.  There are wonderful and beautiful pockets in every town, North Hills is no exception.  Lots of cute areas.  Northridge is also by the college, so depending on exactly where you are looking, you will come accross renter occupied homes/condos and student apartments.  Some areas may even be more congested than others because of not only the college but sr & jr high and elementary.  Such would be the same in any neighborhood.

As for schools, I typically look into the API scores.  But I'm not sure that you are concerned with that as much as you mentioned you already had a school in mind.  For what it's worth, check out http://www.psk12.com/rating/USindexphp/STATE_CA.html

Lastly, I hope that you are working with a RE Broker who is very familiar with these areas.  The knowledge that s/he can provide you is invaluable!

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.  :-)

  • By the way, is the church St. Nicholas?  We live right by there, and our babysitter too!
  • thank you so much! ?yes, it is st. nicholas :) ?I'm Greek, but my parents didn't teach me Greek..I love that the school offers this, and would love for my daughter (and future child) to learn at an early age. ?I need to do more research on the school, but it seems wonderful, and I love that they have an after care program. ?It really is so affordable for a private school too. ?

Do you find there is much to do in Northridge? ?How is the traffic off the 405..I am sure hideous, as it is everywhere :)?

  • Butting in here, but is that the church on Balboa & Plummer? ?We have ?friends that live right around there & it is really great. ?We'd love to live over there, but it is just too far from our families aka babysitters.
  • yes, that is the one...the church is really pretty, but I haven't explored the area at all..I've just driven by some of the houses and they seem nice.

  • Hello!  My babysitter/daycare lady lives right by that church.  In fact, last year, we parked by her house and walked to the Greek Festival for dinner.  Hehehe!  I love that neighborhood!  Nice big lots, nice big older homes, but many have been refurb since the earthquake 15 years ago (has it been that long).  My babysitter bought their house 13-14 years ago.  I see people walking their dogs and jogging in the morning.  Jos & Nat love waving to the dogs and the owners.  They all seem friendly too...even the people, J/k!  hahahah!
