Random Thoughts 1/21/09

Good Morning Ladies!  How is everyone today?

What are your plans for today?

What's your Random thought for today?

Re: Random Thoughts 1/21/09

  • I'm alright today, just COLD!

Plans:  Work then I have to take the car in to get new brakes - they starting grinding yesterday and it sounds so horrible!

Random:  Foot Warmers are not very comfortable in boots.  Sad

  • I'm alright today, just tired and, yes, cold! Noah is teething his back molars so it has been a trying few days. Poor kid!

I don't really have any plans today. Noah and I will hang out here and hopefully he will have 2 naps since he woke up early today. Tonight's dinner is cheeseburgers with oven fries. What is everyone else having?

  • In the yesterdays Random Thoughts post, Susan asked what we thought of Michelle's Ball gown.

I actually really liked it. It was WAY better than her election night gown. The only bad thing is that she looked like she had a little pregnant belly. That was my only negative about it. I think the one sholder was very flattering and the detail was amazing!

  • Today: tired. When DH and I come into town together, I have to get up an hour before him in order to get enough time in the bathroom (and allow the water to heat back up so he can get in the shower).

Plans: I have a meeting this afternoon. And I'm working out this evening. Who knows what in between.

Random thoughts: I really wish they made suit pants in adjustable lengths (without tailoring or hemming). That way, they'd always be the perfect length depending on what shoes I wear that day (today, I'm currently wearing pumas and will switch to dress shoes for my meeting; pants are long with my pumas but just right with the dress shoes).

  • I thought Michelle looked beautiful in her dress. IMO I also think it's a little critical to say that she had pregnant pooch going on. I think she is in fabulous shape for a 45 year old mother of two career woman.

  • No, that was my point exactly. She is in incredible shape for her age and doesn't have a 'belly', it was the cut of the dress that wasn't so flattering over her stomach. I was surprised about that.
  • I have been uber productive at work today, so that makes me really happy.

After I get off work and done with class, I need to mail out a textbook that someone bought from me, figure out what to do about dinner, wash dishes, clean, and try to get everything done for tomorrow's classes.  It's like constantly playing catch up because on days when I don't have class I'm working, so I don't have time to do the readings, projects, and assignments.

My random thought is why does Robert keep saying that "uber" is the new buzz word for 2009?  Did he make that up himself?

My BFF says "uber" quite often and has been doing so since last summer. I had never heard it before she said it...not sure how long the word has been around for.

I did Wikipendia on it, here's the overall...

?ber or ueber comes from the German language. It is a cognate of both Latin super and Greek ?p?? (hyper), as well as English

The term was brought into English by George Bernard Shaw in the title to his 1903 play Man and Superman. During his rise to power, Adolf Hitler bastardized Nietzsche's term, using it in his descriptions of an Aryan master race. It is through this association with Superman the hero that the term "?ber" carries much of its English sense implying irresistibility or invincibility.

One of the first popular modern uses of the word as a synonym in English for super was a Saturday Night Live TV sketch in 1979. The sketch, What if?, pondered the notion of what if the comic book hero Superman had landed in Nazi Germany when he first came from Krypton. Rather than being called Superman, he took the name of Uberman.[1]

During the 2000s, ?ber also became known as a synonym for super due to gamers' excessively using the word incorrectly; for example, in the game Team Fortress 2, the weapon ?ber-charge literally means "super charged," and in the game SSX Tricky, a tricky move is also known as an uber trick. ?ber also eventually came to describe Legendary Pok?mon such as Arceus and Mew during 2007, when the Diamond and Pearl versions of the game were launched.
