gaslamp quarter

Hi! My hubby and I are coming to visit in May. We are staying at the Omni SD hotel in the Gaslamp quarter area. Any suggestions on food and what to do? I've not been to SD since I was a kid, so I'm excited to visit again! Ideas? Oh, we won't have our 4 year old with us either...so we are open to bars, nice restaurants, etc. Also, hubby will be at conferences during the day, anything for me to do? Shopping perhaps? :) Thanks!

Re: gaslamp quarter

  • Do you like baseball? You are staying really close to Petco Park.

You should check out The Field it's a yummy Irish place.

  • You can go to a ballgame. Take a trolley to Old Town, lots of shops, restaurants, etc. Horton Plaza is the mall downtown. You can go to Balboa Park (museums & park) and the zoo which are downtown. The Prado is a great restaurant in Balboa Park, good happy hour too. If you like outdoor theatre, the Old Globe Theatre does a summer Shakespeare festival. I don't remember when it starts. See their website. Take a water ferry ride to Coronado and do some shopping, visit Hotel Del and have lunch or dinner. Royal India is a great Indian restaurant downtown. I also recommend Marble Room for small plate style dining and Sushi Deli Too (casual &cheap). Richard Walkers Pancake House is a great breakfast spot downtown you can easily walk to from your hotel. Line starts forming at 9am so go early. Little Italy is good for some shopping and eating.

  • DEFINITELY check out petco park. YOu can get bleacher seats for $10 if you just want to check out the park, have a beer, etc. Its a really nice stadium.

Balboa is great...I second the Prado!

I looove Red Pearl Kitchen in gaslamp...its my favorite restaurant. Thai/asian fusion family style-ish food. SOOOO good.

I lived in little italy & loved it. Favorite restaurats are Zia's bistro & Buon Appetito...Oh & the Princess Pub for drinks! :)

    Have a fantastic trip!!

  • You're in a great spot, You'll find tons of stuff to do, just by walking around down there! Have a blast!
