Britax Roundabout mommies: I have q's!

I know there was a post about car seats earlier this week, and I hate to be redundant, but I'm going to be. Wink I found a Roundabout for a great price in a print I absolutely LOVE, but I don't want to waste time and money if I'm not going to like it. I know that it's good for up to 40lbs, and all those specs.

So if you have the rounadabout, what has been your experience?

  • What do you love?
  • Hate?
  • Do you think you'll need to buy a bigger seat later?
  • When did you move from rear facing to front facing?

Allison's stats are that she's just 19lbs(almost no weight gain[only 8oz] since her 6 month appt) and she's hovering around 31" (she's grown almost 3 inches since her 6 month appointment!), so now her feet are hanging over the edge of the seat!

Thanks for your help ladies!

Re: Britax Roundabout mommies: I have q's!

  • I love the Roundabout we have for Camille. She is very petite and is lasting pretty long in this carseat...she's already 3 and only 26 lbs. We also have a Marathon for her because we found one on clearance. Between the two I prefer the Roundabout. The extra stuff on the seatbelts on the Marathon make it harder for me to adjust, tighten, etc. It's easy to use the seatbelts on the Roundabout. The Roundabout also has velcro on the sides so you can keep the seatbelt out when you are putting your child in. The Marathon doesn't have this and I'm constantly fishing for the belt once I place Camille in it. Oh and the button to adjust the belts is easier to access on the Roundabout vs on the Marathon its buried under fabric.

We've moved her into an Alpha Omega Elite for all our cars only because we just moved Collin into the Roundabout. Phil had the Roundabout in his car but now has moved it into my car because it is my fave.

Oh, we moved her front facing when she turned 1...but she wasn't 20lbs...more like 18 1/2 lbs. Not really the best thing but we did anyway. Allison will get to the appropriate weight limit for front facing before she turns 1 but I would keep her rear facing until her first birthday.

  • Reese has a Roundabout. I don't hate it, but it just doesn't compare to Rhian's Marathon. I probably wouldn't have any complaints about it though if I didn't have both seats. I found that the Roundabout is a little more difficult to install in the car and the straps get twisted more than the Marathon's straps. Reese is still only 18lbs though so we still haven't tried it forward facing yet.
  • Hey Nicole!

We have the marathon and ours does have the velcro for the straps.  We love it and because Sierra is also on the bigger side (she's in the 80th percentile for height and weight) we definately felt that getting the bigger seat would be more cost effective down the road.  My husband has an evenflo triumph in his car which is also a great seat but she is already approaching being too big for it in height at a little over 2 and a half years old.  Since Allison is also on the bigger side, I would really consider getting one of the seats that goes up to 65lbs like the marathon or some of the other britax ones.

  • We also got the Marathon because of the higher weight limit.  I didn't want to be buying another car seat in a short time.  I think it's a great seat, the straps get twisted up a bit here and there, but I suppose that would happen on any seat.  And the straps on our Marathon have velcro so they stay put while putting the child in the seat.
