Question from a future tourist of Memphis
Hello,
I live in Canada. From April 1-5 my sister and I will be touring Memphis. We are so excited. My sister is Elvis obsessed so of course Graceland is on our tour plans, but I'm wondering if you Memphis ladies have any other suggestions for must see spots, places to eat, things to do for cheap and most importantly some hotel recommendations. We aren't looking to spend too much on accomodations but we'd like something clean and safe. Would you recommend staying as close to downtown as possible or is the city really easy to get around by walking, transit, cabs, etc. Thank you in advance for your suggestions! I really appreciate it.

My husband adores Rendezvous barbeque. http://www.hogsfly.com/NewsReviews.php
The Cooper-Young neighborhood is a pretty neat place with eclectic little shops.
You'll definitely need a car - Memphis is pretty sprawling and Graceland isn't near much of anything. If I remember right, it's not the in the greatest neighborhood, either.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Yes, you absolutely need to go to the Rendezvous for some ribs. You definitely need a car in Memphis and I would not suggest public transportation outside of the trolleys downtown. I really do like midtown in the Cooper-Young area but I know a lot of places have closed in the last year or two. It is still a fun area but it may not take as much time to window shop and what not as it used to. You might check out South Main Street as they have some pretty cool places downtown. If your sister is into Elvis I would highly suggest Sun Studios and it's my favorite tour here in Memphis. Also the "Beauty Shop" in midtown is a cute little place where Priscilla used to get her hair done. Other things you could check out include the Zoo, Brooks Museum of Art, Civil Rights Museum, Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Gibson Guitar Factory Tour, and Beale Street at night. If the weather is nice you could always check out the Memphis Botanic Garden or take a walk around the parks near the Mississippi River.
My favorite food places include: Memphis Pizza Cafe, Spaghetti Factory, Fresh Slices (a cute sandwich place in midtown), Dish, Blue Fin (for sushi), and Big Foot Lodge. There are so many yummy places that you shouldn't have a problem.
