S/O of Brandy's shopping for a boy post
I just saw Brandy's post about trying to boy a gift for a little boy and it reminded me of shopping for my nephews over the holidays. I usually pick out gifts for all the girls and dh buys for the boys. We're wandering down the totally foreign aisles of GI Joes, Hot Wheels, Dinosaurs and such when I said loudly "what kind of fun is this? There's no pink, sparkles, ponies or princesses anywhere". Dh and all the male shoppers just gave me a groan and eyeroll while all the women in the aisle laughed and agreed with me.
I am 100% clueless when it comes to shopping for little boys.
Re: S/O of Brandy's shopping for a boy post
I love shopping for my boy. ?You can never go wrong with hotwheels!
What I love about J's b-day parties are that we get about 95% clothes and just a small amount of toys. ?We get so many clothes that really don't have to buy that much for him. ?So you can never go wrong with clothes.
Our friend's actually told us to get their kids gift cards from Target so they can put them all together to get Wii games. ?(not rude or anything, I just asked what the kids wanted).
On J's invite (it may be tacky) I include what size he wears and what he is into that way our guests aren't clueless to what he likes.?
I am a total girlie girl and I love shopping for my son.. but I miss the pink sparkly things. I get all of it out with my friend's daughter.
As for gifts for boys... even with my brothers and Julian, I am still at a loss. I just dont like a lot of the toys out there and what they promote. So I get clothes, make scrapbooks (right Min!), give books, or just ask the mom what they want.
Michelle, I am with you... I very much appreicate when parents put the size and what they are into on the invite. Some may say tacky, but I call it a time-saver. Saves me time from calling mom or dad and asking the same questions.
Plaid? ?I haven't seen any plaid in the boys sections this season. ?Jacob's doesn't own a single plaid thing.
I have so much fun shopping for J. ?I guess you just get used to shopping for what you have. ?I don't miss the pink sparkly stuff at all.
I am at a loss when it comes to finding girls stuff & usually do call the parent to ask what the child is into.?
On a side note, while I great at shopping for girls I'm horrible at doing their hair. I'm envious of moms of boys in that they don't have to fuss with hair on a daily basis. Rhian and Reese always end up with lopsided pony tails and crooked parts and only so much of it can be blamed on them not sitting still. I've actually taught Rhian to tell people that daddy did her hair on the especially bad days.
I'm still struggling to find a gift for that 4 year old. Ugh!
I'll never understand men and I sure as heck shop for them. haha!?
Hey.... not all mom boys dont have to deal with hair issues. Have you seen my son and his mop of hair? hahaha! I easily spend about 10 minutes each morning getting his hair to look good.
ahhh, thanks Jenn. I often wonder, if he were a girl.. and we never cut his hair, how long would it be. hmmm, we are at about 18 hair cuts in 22 months.
