Time for an introduction post!

Tell me your name and a little story about yourself!  Let's all get to know each other!  Who are you?  How long have you been on this site?  What are your hobbies/interests?  What brought you to Portland (or Oregon) if you aren't from here originally?

My name is Jen. My husband is Mike.  I started on the knot about... 4-5 years ago?  Man that makes me feel old!  Moved over to the nest after the wedding.  We have now been married for 3 1/2 years.  We live on the Eastside, but I am a Westside girl at heart, and hope to move back to Beaverton eventually.  We like boating and vacationing.

I work as an Exec Assistant for a well known Portland company.  I love my job. I'm pregnant with my first baby, after almost 2 years of TTC.  I like shopping, decorating, and organizing, and party planning!

I like to drink (when not pregnant...duh!). I'm really really excited to go get a mango marguarita soon after birth. Like, I daydream about it right now. LOL

Re: Time for an introduction post!

  • My name is Kelli.  I started on the knot about five years ago as I was planning our wedding.  We recently moved to the area from Austin Texas but we are NOT FROM TEXAS, teehee.  DH grew up in Vancouver WA so knows Portland well and I grew up in Boise Idaho.  We are in LOVE with Portland and so happy to be back in the Pacific Northwest.

We are unfortunate to be struggling to get pregnant and have been fighting the infertility battle for a little over two years now.  I spend most of my time on TTTC on the bump.   Besides that I love shopping, decorating, design, wine, beer, and spending time with friends.  I am working as an admin assistant at a start up downtown.  I'm also going to school part time and hope to get my degree in Graphic Design very soon.

Jen I too LOVE a good Mango Margarita, yum!!!  If Texas can offer anything good it would be how to mix Tequila with anything.  Let me introduce you to the "skinny b!tch martini" and a good "Texas Margarita", both fabulous on a hot summer day.  When your not pregnant ask me about them and I'll tell you how to make them.  A must try.

  • My name is Amanda, hubby is Jared. I started over on the knot about 3 years ago I guess, a year and half before the wedding. Been married since June of '07. We live about 30 minutes south of PDX in Canby, where I've lived most of my life. We just purchased our first home and moved out of my fathers house (yay!) this past weekend.

Jared works for a local telecommunications company doing Installation and Repair of phone, TV, and internet services. I graduated from college with a Bachelors in Foods and Nutrition in April, had a heck of a time finding a job, so I decided to go back to school. I started working as a teller for a well known bank recently (better hours and pay than the waitressing job that got me through college) and will begin online courses for a Food Security certificate program soon. Would really like to work in the growing food sustainability/food security field.

I love to cook, love to eat, just love food in general. So, I do a lot of cooking at home. I also make jewelry with my mom (I think I have a link on my sig still), I really love being creative with that. Jared and I like to watch movies together (bought a new TV in November, and decided we had to have Netflix to go with it, so we do a lot of that lately). We are looking forward getting our house settled so we can have people over to our new place soon.

  • I'm game....I don't visit the local board much.

I'm Kristin....I have been on the knot/nest on and off for about 4 years.  Married in Aug 2006.

I work as a Compensation Consultant for a large local healthcare company/non-profit.  People either LOVE me or hate me because of my job.  I enjoy my work and I am thankful for having a good paying job right now.  So many of my friends have been laid off recently from all types of companies.

I have no desire for children but love my nephews and my pets.  We have a Frenchie and a unique cat.

I love Portland and all of Oregon.  I am an actual Native Oregonian....3rd generation!  I like the quirkyness and free spirit of Oregon.  Love hiking and outdoors activites.  I like to be creative and dabble in all types of stuff...jewelry making, various craft projects, etc

I am currently enjoying getting back into fitness to lose some not so needed weight.  So far I am 12 lbs down.

My husband and I have a unique situation.  He actually works in NY and commutes home to Oregon on the weekends.  I refer to him as my weekend husband!

  • yay exciting! i hope this helps get this board moving :) i need to start making the switch from detroit to oregon pretty soon...

Tell me your name and a little story about yourself!  Let's all get to know each other!  Who are you?  How long have you been on this site?  What are your hobbies/interests?  What brought you to Portland (or Oregon) if you aren't from here originally?

Name is Jen and I'm from Michigan...have lived here all my life. I'm pretty much obsessed with animals and want to one day own my own animal rescue shelter...and it will be located on the farm that dh and i will one day own as well. :) Right now we have 2 dogs, a cat, and a rabbit!

I have a degree from Michigan State in zoology but don't use it whatsover. I originally wanted to be a vet but quickly changed my mind. I now work in non-profit and absolutely love it. I just love knowing that I'm making a difference. I'm really hoping that when I move out to Portland, I can get a job in a non profit. I'm also hoping to get my masters in Non-profit management from PSU starting in the fall of 2010 (anyone know anything about this program?)

As for hobbies, right now I don't have much time for them as DH and I are working on fixing up our house getting it ready to sell. It was his mom's old house and a complete mess so it's a big project. When I do have time for hobbies, though, I love scrapbooking, hiking, traveling, working out and volunteering. I also used to be a percussionist and miss it greatly, so once I have enough $$ i'm going to buy a marimba so I can pick it up again!

DH and I aren't in Portland quite yet...we'll be moving this summer...and we're going because DH wants to be an environmental lawyer, so he is going to go to Lewis and Clark law -- he starts this coming fall...we are both SO ready to get out of Michigan (for a million reasons), so we just can't wait!

Oh, and I started on the knot about 2 years ago maybe? DH and I dated for 5 years before getting engaged in September of 2007, then we were married in May of 2008!

  • My name is Liane and my husband is named Rutherford.  I started on The Knot forever ago to help my childhood friend plan her wedding.  Rutherford and I have been married 4.5 years - I can't believe it's been that long.  We met through our best friends who were dating each other.

I work for my family's business.  Our big project is being master planners for a sustainable and affordable community on the coast.  This job is completely different than all the non-profit work I used to do, but I learn at least one new thing every day.  I'm grateful to work for my family as I've needed a lot of flexibility over the last 1.5 years during my pregnancy and now raising twin girls.

I feel like I used to have hobbies and interests, but they've gotten lost in all the baby stuff.  I've started reading again.  I am getting better about going to the gym.  My husband bought me roller skates this week.  I'm so stoked to skate the babies around the neighborhood.

  • I'm Esther and my husband's name is Geoff (Jeez, can you tell from my login?). I work at a large well-known hospital in Portland, but in the research dept. I do research on using speech technology to diagnose neurological and behavioral diseases and to provide remedial software for people. I have a PhD in computer science. Geoff works as a transportation engineer for a local consulting firm. We met in 2003, got engaged in 2005 at which time I joined the knot. Got married in June 2006.

We just had our first baby in June 2008. She's growing up so fast! I love being a mom, more than I ever thought I would (even though I was pretty excited about it already). Our daughter Katie is the most mellow, happy baby I've ever met. We took her swimming yesterday for the first time and she loved it. Even dunking her under water for a few seconds only gave her big smiles!

  • My name is Anne, husband is Ryan.  We're both native Oregonians.  We have three amazing pets, two cats and a dog.  I started out on TheKnot after I got engaged in 2004.  My Nest habits have been hot and cold.  It seems I've somewhat connected with some national boards (Election 08) but then the board changes or I get sick of it.  Plus, I just don't have the time.

I work in marketing in a sustainability field and I'm working on getting a post-bacc in graphic design (my original degrees were in Spanish and International Studies).  My interests/hobbies include:  running, hiking, outdoors, design, art, crafts (I'm learning how to sew right now), decorating and remodeling our house, cooking, yoga, pilates, gardening (I'm designing and getting ready to build raised beds for an organic veggie garden as well as a chicken coop for heirloom chickens), traveling, reading (non-fiction mostly), music and sustainability.

We live on the eastside which is very much us.  We bought our house about 4 years ago and have been very slowly making changes and updates.  No kids for now and maybe ever.  We've had a really challenging couple of years with regards to health problems and deaths in the family so the thought of having kids right now is a distant one...and we're really ok with that despite an insane amount of pressure and invasive questions. :)

  • Kristin-

I love the 2nd picture of your frenchie!

  • My name is Bula. I can't put my real since it's pretty unique and I prefer not to be googable, so it's bula for now. MH's name is Justin.

I started checking out this local board probably about 1.5 years ago before moving to Portland.

We're Buckeyes (THE Ohio State University), despite both being from Illinois originally.

This is my first winter and Portland and I'm already dreaming of being elsewhere. Sad, but true. I love the city but I feel like I need more space. I love living in downtown but my dogs need a backyard and I won't be able to afford anything here. haha. I do love the bungalows I see in the east side with big front porches with swings. Oh I wish...

I am a workaholic. Working for a big retail pharmacy. I love helping people but at the same time hate the grouchy, unappreciative patients/customers. I'm running out of patience for the patients. Hahaha. Justin is a product designer for a small company he loves.

I run, eat, spend time with the dogs. Working out is truly an obsession but standing all day has slowed me down a bit. My legs ache on a daily basis. I'm not into children. At all.

I'm in need for a facial and massage. Sorry, very scatter brain today.

    Any recs for CSA's? :)

  • My name is Andrea; DH (Ryan) and I were married in 9/06, but I've been on the nest for 4 or 5 years (never really got into the knot).

I'm a native Oregonian, but orginally from NE Oregon; I came to Portland 9 years ago when I finished college.  We love love love the Pacific Northwest and never want to live anywhere else (and I've lived all over, so I know that it doesn't get any better than this! Wink  DH and I work for different companies in the telecom industry, although he aspires to be a commercial pilot and I hope to get a freelance writing career off the ground.

We just bought a small house in SE last summer that we're enjoying thoroughly, and added a dog a couple of weeks ago to our family of two cats (cats are not amused)...we don't plan to have children.

  • Fun!  I am Heidi and my DH is Erick.  He was born and raised here in Oregon and I from Ohio.  We met at college in Ohio and then I moved here with him.  We live in the Oregon City/West Linn area, and I have lived here since July 2002!

We got married 12/06 and I read stuff over at theknot.com but never really posted as we got married in Mexico :-).  We had our first baby 12/13/08, the day before all the snow started!!  He was 1 week late, so I think he wanted to stress us out about getting home haha.  His name is Anthony and he is currently passed out on my arm as I type...he is 6 weeks old today, awwwwww.

I 'joined' the nest shortly after we got married and mostly read lots of posts on the What's for Dinner board.  I have started over the past few months to venture to Money Matters and Fashion sometimes.  I usually forget this Portland board is here!  I don't post much though as I am usually on at odd hours.

I like to read, shop, go to movies, bake & cook.  Dh likes all the same (haha) and he also coahces high school lacrosse so we hardly see him from Mid-February through May.  We pretty much just hang out and enjoyed being DINKs until A came along, now we are trying to balance things!

That's about all I can think of now...have a great weekend all! Stick out tongue

  • I'm Rachel and my husband is Jason.  I have been on the Knot/Nest forever.  Joined back in 2003 when my sister got engaged.  Been here ever since.

We got married in November of 2006 but have been together since 2001.  I work as a Business Systems Analyst at an insurance company (not going to put the name for obvious reasons) and Jason is a security officer.  Not his ideal job, but he's employed and that's what matters.

I am a full time student and work full time so I am busy.  I would put the name of my college, but won't for personal reasons.  I can assure you it's a credited university though.  Not like Pioneer Pacific or anything like that.

We were TTC after a miscarriage, but are currently taking an unofficial break.

I moved here from New Hampshire after my mom married someone who lived in Oregon.  Jason is a native Oregonian.  My family still lives on the East Coast and I don't see them very often.

I like to read, shop, bake, cook and hang out with my girlfriends.

    That's about it.

  • Jen, leave it to you to get things movin!  (Btw got your text last night! YAY for strollers!)

Started on the Knot in 2004, got married in 2005.  Been on the nest since 2005 immediately following the wedding.  I'm an internet JUNKIE.  Love chatting, love posting, love lurking.  My newest addiciton is shnoop.com, got a Silver Cross umbrella stoller for $20!  (shipping was an additional $20, but still...normally those strollers retail $160 something...) but I digress...

We have a  house in Beaverton with a great backyard (YAY!) that is actually down the street from both our childhood homes since we were both born and bred in Beaverton.  Both my hubby and I went to the same middle school and high school but didn't even meet or know of each other till junior year at UO....at a frat party...one night....that has turned into 8 years.  Sigh.  Big Smile I love him.  We had our first child in June 08 and it's been an amazing ride.... that I know will continue to be fabulous.  He's a graphic designer and does marketing for a local nursery in Canby.  I'm a sales manager/wedding coordinator for a Marriott hotel in North Portland.  (Never did get sick of wedding planning...since my wedding.  Hahah!)

Let's see...I work alot (ALOT!), love spending time with my girlfriends, hanging out with DD, drinking Starbucks and whatever else my weeks get filled up with.  (Any mom's out there feel like time goes by faster now that you have a child?  There's  just not enough hours in a day!!)  I'm in LOVE with Twilight right now and try to find whatever time I can to read it.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!

  • Hello,

My name is Harmony & my husband is Steve. I was born and raised in Pacific NW and so was my husband.?We live on the eastside and both of us work on the other side of the Willamette, and every day we take the commute, we wonder why we don't live closer. I work in ?health insurance and he works in the oil industry. I'm really looking to get into a more fulfilling position with another company, perhaps a non-profit- but this economy has got to shape up!I am also a full time graduate student, working on my master's in management. No children in the future for us. A cat, Peaches, and a dog, Ruby are our children for now. I started knotting around when we got engaged in 2005 and I migrated over to thenest when we were married in October 2006.

I love reading, crafts, gardening, taking photos, traveling and eating at new places. My pact to 2009 is to love my body, so I am back into walking & running, and my goal is to be able to run in a race this year.?

If I had to pick my FAVORITE drink, it's without a doubt a wonderful combination on a NW favorite and a traditional favorite- a blackberry margarita!?

  • My name is Courtney and my H is Brandon. I started on the knot about 3 years ago when we first started wedding planning but quickly moved over to the nest because I wasn't really into it. I spend most of my time over on MM because it's so slow here!

We got married finally this past October on a whim when we were in San Diego on vacation. We rent in the Hollywood area but are considering a move to Multnomah Village area of SW. We are both native Oregonians, although I grew up in NE Portland and he grew up in Gresham, so we're having trouble deciding where to settle. No kids yet, but we have three cats.

I work as an optician for a local optical shop, although my degree is in English and I would like to work in development for an animal related nonprofit. Brandon is currently unemployed after his company went bankrupt in November. He works in IT and is looking for work as a database administrator.

I love to read, shop, travel, and eat good food! I am also into financial planning right now as we are trying to pay off debt and save up for a home.

  • Hi gals. I'm Shannon and my hubby is Colin. I joined the DC knot about 2 years ago probably almost to the day. We got married 09-08-07. I went over to the nest after that.

I just moved to Portland in October and came over to this board about the same time. We set up our temporary home in Beaverton and will hopefully buy our first home soon. There's so many great places to live, I'm not sure where we will end up. I grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to DC after I graduated from undergrad. I started out in some desk jobs doing marketing and such, and ended up getting a masters in exercise, fitness and health promotion and changed careers. Right now, I'm teaching group fitness classes for the Oregon Athletic Clubs (Bethany and Hawthorne Farms) and I'm also working at a new gym in NE Portland training, teaching, managing, etc. Hubby is in the biotech industry. We moved to Oregon to get away from the east coast. It's so hot and humid in the summer and in DC, the people were really getting to me. I love it here so far.

I have a cat who is like my litte child. We aren't sure about having a kid yet. I love to be outside hiking, snowshoeing, biking whatever. I also like to cook, drink lattes and good wine. I love coming home to my hubby and kitty at the end of the day...

  • Hey All! My name is Stephanie and DH is Damon. I joined the Knot back in 2006 before our wedding in October '06. I came to the Nest and Bump a few months ago when we decided it was time to start a family. I am mostly on the Oregon Babies, Nest Getting Pregnant, Baby Names, and now I will be back here more since there seems to be some action!

I work full-time as a Six Sigma Black Belt for a national healthcare company. Six Sigma Black Belt = Process Improvement Project Manager (more or less). I have lived in Oregon all my life and went to OSU for my undergrad. I am also in grad school for an MBA. I will graduate in September!

I am really excited to start a family! I also love wine, reading, movies, snow skiing, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and playing with our dog!

  • My name is Alyssa and my husband is Art. I started on the knot about 5 years ago and switched to the nest a few months after my wedding in Aug. '05. I live in Forest Grove but we are thinking about moving to the Eastside now that DH works in Milwaukie.

I enjoy traveling, reading, wine, coffee and shopping. I'm into pretty much all things girlie.  I have a one year old son and can't beleive how much fun he is. I really enjoy the various Mommies groups that I belong to and host or go to playgroups quite often in an attempt to keep both Tre and I socialized especially since we live so far out.

I have a degree in Marketing but have never really put it to much use. My background is in Project Management and Insurance.

  • Hi Ladies,

I'm Aubrey and my hubs is Aaron. I started on the Knot close to 2 years ago when I got engaged. I've since transitioned to the Nest, but my posting has definitely slowed.

My DH is born and raised in Longview, WA. After the wedding we moved to Washougal, WA for his job. I currently work from home and commute to San Francisco once a week. I work in digital marketing and love balancing my suburban and urban lifestyles.

DH and I love traveling. We try to take a major trip every year. We also love wine, friends, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and being outdoors. We're definitely diving into nesting. I love interior design and am having a blast working on our home.

Being new the NW I'm loving learning a new city and seeing what this part of America has to offer.

  • Hi ladies!

I'm Judi and my husband's name is James.  I joined the knot two years ago and we were married on 7/4/08. I had lived in Portland and various places around Washington state from 2004-2006 and moved back to Portland last summer after the wedding.  We've been looking to buy a house, but unfortunately my husband was laid off from his IT position this week AND just received word that he is being called up to active duty and likely to be deployed in March. :(  I do contract work as a physical therapist and if DH gets deployed I'll likely leave PDX for a while as I can make more money doing contract work around the country but we plan to come back to PDX after he returns from his deployment.  We love the Northwest.  He's originally from Spokane and I'm born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.  Go Buckeyes!

  • I know I'm a little late for this, but...

Hi! I'm Stephanie and my husband is Ben. I started on the knot about probably in 2006, about a year before we got married. I started nesting the summer of 2007. I mostly browse and go through seasons of posting and not.Fun fact: I graduated nursing school the day before our wedding!

I am originally from California and moved to So. Oregon in high school. I came to Portland for Nursing school and fell in love. Ben is from Montana and came out here to pursue music in a band he is no longer in (he plays bass). I am a nurse at Doernbecher and Ben is a student at the Art Institute. We both love Portland and would love to stay here - providing Ben can find a good job when he graduates.

Now that I am not busy with school and other activities that come along with that, I'm learning what my hobbies are. I enjoy making & sending greeting cards, hiking, organizing, taking bubble baths, window shopping and being at home with my husband.

Ben and I want kids, but not for a while (3-4 yrs). Ben needs to finish school, I need to get a PT position and we'd love to pay off our school debt and buy a house. Oh, and we want to travel before adding a lil one to the mix.

We've not taken a trip just the two of us since we've been married (except our honeymoon). Every time we've traveled it's been to visit our large family. So, in a rebellious act against this economy and in a desperate attempt to find warm weather, we're going to Vegas at the end of the month. Neither of us have ever been and we're both really excited. We're also crossing our fingers for warm weather!
