Clemson area suggestions?

Hi! My husband and I live in Boston, but he was just accepted to a PhD program at Clemson and I'm about 95% sure we'll be moving down there this summer! I've only been to Clemson once, so I don't know a whole lot about the area. If anyone has some suggestions about the best places to live and things to do in the area, I'd really appreciate the suggestions! We are probably going to rent for a year, and we have no kids (but are planning on it in the next two  years or so). We do have a dog who is like our child, so we'd love to live somewhere dog friendly (our current neighborhood is super dog friendly with great dog parks and things to do with the dog).

Thanks so much!

Re: Clemson area suggestions?

  • Hello! I did my undergrad at Clemson and absolutely loved the area! Regarding housing, there are a ton of undergrads who live off campus, so depending on your "partying" habits you may try to find a nice rental house as opposed to an apartment. Ask the landlord about the other houses in the area and how many students live in them. I still remember going to parties at someone's house and feeling guilty about all of the family homes around them!

If you like being outdoors, you are going to the right town. I'm a really big hiker, kayaker, etc and I was in heaven in Clemson. You are really close to mountains, lakes, and are only 4 hours from the beach. There's always Greenville to go shopping and to visit their little downtown area. There's a bunch of neat restaurants and pubs there.

I just moved to Phoenix so writing this is getting me a little homesick. I hope you enjoy your time there, and be sure to go to a couple of football games in Clemson. You've never seen anything like it!

  • I spent 4 years as an undergrad there, 1 year as a grad student, and DH and I are living here this year (but will be moving in June).  I can give you a ton of info if you want to e-mail me (erinbusch24 at gmail dot com).  I'd be happy to help you out :)

  • Hello! Welcome!  I live about 10 minutes outside of Clemson and love the area.

I'm also a Realtor and as part of my business end up showing around a lot of prospective teachers/students.  I can't help with all rentals, but I can show you where to start.   If you need any help lholmes at coldwellbankercaine dot com.

And no, I'm not pushy and would not try and sell you a house if you just need some help getting your bearings :)
