Recommend your apartment complex....

DH and I are moving to KC in May and are starting to look at apartments but it's overwhelming process especially since we aren't able to narrow down an area of town just yet.  So I am looking for suggests.  We are looking for a 2 bedroom 1 1/2-2 bath apartment that takes pets.  Thanks in Advance ladies!

Re: Recommend your apartment complex....

  • When we rented we lived in two different apartment complexes: The Ethan's and Oakbrook, both of which are in the Northland. Oakbrook was much nicer (we lived in the newest portion) but the Ethan's worked great for our first apartment but had some major maintenance issues. It took forever to get anything fixed.

  • We live in Lenexa at the Crossings. I love it here and we are getting ready to sign a new lease for our 3rd year here. Maintence here is superb and returns emergancy calls in minutes. Our washer broke and we had a new one the same day. They also accept pets. We have a 2bed 2 bath and its about 1200 sq ft.

I also lived at the Ethans like pp and I would stay far away from that place. It seems like it would be safe because its behind a police station, but it was crime central. One girl was actually kidnapped from the building next to me, and a dead body was found on the stairs a few buildings down on a sunday morning!

  • Where are you going to be working? I would suggest narrowing your search down to close to where you or DH going to work. If you'll be working downtown I can probably find you some great downtown condos that are being rented.

KC really isn't that big but you don't really want to be living in Olathe and working in Independence.

  • Like the PP I am from both sides of the state line, I grew up in Kansas and now live in Missouri. My husband and I lived at Camden Passage for our first year, and we really enjoyed it, the apartments were very nice and affordable. We also had a Black labrador, the pet rent was 15 dollars extra a month and 200 dollar deposit. We had a two bedroom two bath apartment for 750 a month plus the pet rent so it was 765. Our square footage was just under eleven hundred square feet. Oh and the bath tubs were the gigantic garden tubs in both bathroom. Updated kitchen appliances and a nice balcony. We never had any problems. Oh I forgot to mention that this complex is located at I-29 and 64th Street, Which is near Parkville.
  • At this time we are unable to narrow down our search to a specific place. My classes will be at North Kansas City Hospital but DH is still job searching so we will most likely split the difference once he has been hired.  We just wanted the search narrowed in case he doesn't get a job until March or April.

  • I would avoid AMLI apartments.  I have know several people who had a bad experience with them.

  • How funny, I just came TO recommend AMLI Lexington Farms.  We had a great experience there.  It's in a very convenient location at 135th and Antioch.  We had a 2 bed 2 bath apartment that was a little over 1100 sq.ft I believe - rent was right at 800.

  • I was actually going to recommend Amli at Cambridge Square. We have lived there for 2 years now and are only moving because we are buying a home.

There are things that suck about renting from a huge corp. like AMLI. Like we have to pay 1k to terminate our lease early. But they have been great with maintenance, our apartment has really nice upgraded features and they are one of the only companies in town to rent to people with more than one dog/large dogs.

Cambridge Square has an awesome location to downtown or to the suburbs but it is more expensive than most. We have about 1100 sq too and our rent is over $1000. However most of the neighbors are business types- not a lot of families which means it is quieter. Anyway Good Luck.

  • Falcon Falls--it's in the Northland off of 169 and 64th street.  My husband and I lived there for three years and absolutely loved it.  Our apartment was very nice, maintenance was wonderful and the price was excellent (we paid $749 for a 2 bed/2 bath).
  • We used to live at The Homestead Apartments at 119th and Blackbob in Olathe.  4 years ago it was $725/mo for 2 bed/1 bath.  They allow large pets, we had 100+ lb dog in there.  We will likely sell our house and build this year and will move back there in between.  Rates haven't gone up much & we liked living there.
  • We lived at AMLI at Lexington Farms, and we really liked it but they kept raising our rates. They were pretty good about maintenance, but our Neighbors were HORRIBLE. We had a few friends that lived there as well and they had HORRIBLE neighbors too. We are living at Skyler Ridge now, and while we love the floor plan, we haven?t decided if we really like it. Our Internet sucks, we recently found out that the entire complex, and the entire housing tract behind us are all on the same node. So if you like your internet this is not the place to go. We have the Hollywood style floor plan, which is very cute if you are looking for something out of the norm, but the kitchen doesn?t have a lot of counter space. It would be better if I didn't have to put a microwave on one of the counters.
