I HATE having to submit plagiarism reports :/

I started grading assignments for this week and I've already had to fill out three plagiarism reports.

I'm annoyed that I have to do more work on my end, but I'm pretty p!ssed off that these college students aren't doing their own work and apparently think I'm stupid enough to pull this over on me.

ugh. I stopped last night after three because I was so annoyed, and I have more assignments due today and I'm afraid to see how many more there could be. :/

Move along, nothing to see here.....

  • Whoa. College students?  I'm pretty sure there were some serious ramifications for that when I was in school.
  • yeah, in theory. This is for a junior college type setting - associate degrees. This is also a for-profit school, so I'm assuming that they're more lenient to get more money.

  • Oy vey! Silly people..
  • I don't know if I could teach in an environment where this is so common and/or not treated as a serious violation.  I have a BIG problem with cheaters... even in high school, when EVERYONE would sit in the cafeteria before classes began and everyone would just copy each other's Algebra work... ohh, I hated it.  It doesn't get them anywhere and totally degrades the integrity of the learning and education process.
  • Wow.  That's pretty crazy on the college level.
  • This might be a silly question, but how do you know? Do you use a program that indexes web content, or was it something you just figured out?

MPPB, the school I work with has a version of "Turn It In" that also checks against past student submissions (since this program is all online).

Most of the time it is really obvious to me since the plagiarized part is at a completely different level than the student's ability or the information they are C&Ping isn't presented in their text, assignments, etc.

At that point, I then just Google the suspicious phrase and I am getting documents pulling up word for word text.
