Folly Beach Recs?

I am planning a vacation to Folly Beach, SC. Any suggestions on what are to stay in? We found a house on East Ashley, is that a good area? What is the beach like? Any good restaurants to try or other must see places? We wanted to spend some time in Charleston, but also be at the beach. Would this be a good beach to pick? Thanks!

Re: Folly Beach Recs?

  • There definitely is not too much on Folly Beach (very small/local), but Isle of Palms is also the same way (just a bit more commercial) and about the same distance from Charleston. There are some surf shops and restaurants and that is about it on Folly. One great place I go to regularly at Folly is Taco Boy which is on the main road and you'll see when you come into Folly.

Downtown there are many many many things you can do, it just depends on what you are looking to do.... carraige rides, ghost tours, shopping, open air market, bars, tons of restaurants.... if you check out on this SC board there are charleston recreation posts that can give you more information about restaurants.

If you give more specifications on activities/rests/charleston that you have in mind, more options can be given! Big Smile

  • Folly is awesome.  My husband and I were married out there.  My parents rented a house all the way out on E Ashely almost at the end.  It was SO beautiful and peaceful. They were able to get around to everywhere they needed to go.  Our rehearsal dinner was in Mt. P and our reception was downtown.  They just took the connector wherever they needed to go.  They were very happy with their choice.  We used Fred Holland reality.  I know you can search their website online for houses.  Also, if you call a couple weeks before you plan your visit, you can get last minute deals.
