Vet & kennel recs - York/Lancaster

DH and I are currently looking into getting a dog. I'm trying to get some information about vets and kennels in the area and wanted to get some recommendations. We don't have a need for a kennel any time soon, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask about that too! Thanks!

  • I take our cats to Shiloh just north of Emigsville (also near Dover too).  I really like and trust them.

We take our dogs there and LOVE them! We take them to the Emigsville location, which is near the York SPCA. They are so great!

  • We use Shiloh -- same as mahantango. We go to the Dover office, though, because it's closer.
  • If you are in York I highly recommend Shiloh as well. I used to take Target there and if we weren't so far away I still would. My parents take their dogs and cats there as well.

We go to Neffsville. I like them okay for routine stuff-actually really like Dr. Nicole Blithe, but some of their vets are pretty dodgy so I won't recommend them overall.

  • As far as kennels go we've been taking Guinness to daycamp at Oscar's Pet Resort.  They are really professional and he has a good time there. They have daycamp, boarding and grooming services there.  I like that they temperament test their dogs.  Guinness eats poo sometimes and they always tell me when he eats it before they get a chance to clean it up (I like this because it would be pretty easy not to tell me and I wouldn't know unless he ended up sick).  They require vaccinations and I have heard them calling owners to remind them (this was not the case at the place we used to go-we never turned in the second year vaccination records and no one ever asked).  Guinness had an incident where he bit another dog because she got in his space.  They handled it all very well. No one gets upset or excited.  I really like it there.
