Job Market
Is anyone here from the Davenport/Bettendorf area?? DH and I are looking to move there hopefully by the end of this year, but we're concerned about finding jobs. How are things there?

This are as good as they can be at this time in this country. DH grew up in the Iowa side of the QCA. All the family is still there and no one has been hit by layoffs.
We're down in Peoria and love to visit Davenport! Feel free to ask questions, I can answer or get DH to answer.

Hey Mah! I'm good and you?? I don't really like to Nest during work anymore. I've only been here a few months and I think they're kind of strict as far as being on the internet, so I really only get on during lunch. How are the pups?

I'm happy to hear your H's family hasn't been hit by the economy.
We've found a couple good websites with QCA job postings (besides Careerbuilder and Monster), so that will help. Does your husband know any recruiters in the area? We're afraid when people see on our resumes that we live in Illinois, that they won't even consider us.

The puppies are all fine. We ended up keeping one of them and get regular updates on the other two.
Could use use someone's address on your resume (friend or family member)? Change a cell phone to a local Quad Cities phone number? That might help with the job search.
Dh and I were able to get a 563 and 309 (um, Peoria #, not Moline) cell phone family plan. His family can still call him locally, and we have a local cell # so people don't think we are completely crazy out-of-staters [eg, all our neighbors are 70+ in age and don't get it]. Basically the midwest was considered the same "market"... I made the management look it up since they didn't think 2 different area codes could be on the same family share plan.
Don't know of any head hunters, sorry. DH didn't really get the time of day from some QCA companies when he was looking for a job out of college, so we settled on Peoria with a company that did give him the time of day. But he was also very nitpicky about what sort of company he wanted to work for (large enough that he had room to grow professionally and a name that had been around and would still be around when he retired).
