been gone for a bit

well i hope all you ladies are doing well. i think i have been off the boards for over a week...happy to be back! last monday my H and his brothers and i drove to AZ b/c their grammy passed away..so heartbreaking to see grown men cry like that. although it is terribly sad it was time, her quality of life was not very good and now she is in a better place.

after having a long talk with my H we decided to get healthy!...AGAIN! when i met my H i was NOT  the weight i am now i was way less. its so depressing sometimes to look at old photos but i have decided to take charge and get fit! this time around i want to concentrate on getting lean and tone and not the number on the scale...in the past i would weigh myself like 4 times a day i was obsessed. if i worked out and ate good for a week and the number on the scale did not change i would give up b/c i did not drop a few. and also eventhough we are not planning on getting pregnant right away i want to be my healthiest when it does happen. i am also reading jillian michaels 'making the cut' its really helpful. the book is designed though for ppl who want to lose those last 20 pounds and eventhough i want to lose like 40-50 pounds it is still helpful.

so if any ladies have any advice, recipes or ideas please let me know!

Re: been gone for a bit

  • So sorry to hear about your H's grammy. :(
Glad to have you back. Lots of girls on here do the 30 day shred and seem to like it. I think it's the same lady right? I obviously have a few pounds to lose right now too and started walking this week. Maybe we need to have a weight loss check in again. Smile
  • One thing I find really helps is to write down EVERYTHING that enters my mouth- whether it is water, soda, food, gum, candy, etc... write it all down. I also write down my emotions at the time that I ate every thing- so am I stressed when I'm eating chocolate, or soda, etc... that way I know how I'm doing emotionally so I can watch my habits.

Something interesting I read yesterday and have already started to implement - one girl decided to add 1 minute of exercise into her day for 31 days. She found that by the end of the 31 days, she was doing 10+ minutes / day and found it easier to just throw it into her daily routine. Whether that was dropping to do 1 minute of pushups after brushing her teeth, or 1 minute of crunches or lifting hand weights. It is easier to keep adding on when you start small and you get more toned and it starts getting easier.

Good luck to you! I'm working on the same thing :)

  • i think you are totally smart for writing everything down. its hard for me to keep up with it though. do you write down calories etc. or just what you ate? do you measure your food at all? we are gonna try to only eat like fresh stuff like egg white omletes with veggies turkey sammie with spinach etc. i am hoping by eating more fresh it will make more of a difference and hopefully see results a little quicker!
  • No, I don't measure or write down the calories, etc... I just write down what I eat and drink, so I know what I am doing. It is amazing what you find you eat when you're not really paying attention- but you pay a lot more attention to what you eat when you know you have to put it on paper. So that extra snacking that you never even realized you were doing is now "caught" on paper :)

I have been focusing on adding salad and fresh veggies to my diet too. Addition of veggies is super important and is a great filler too!

  • I have been motivated to lose weight lately too. I am very close to losing my first 10 pounds. One thing I do is keep a chart with the days of the week and I mark off each day that I go to the gym and workout. I also put my weight every SUnday morning. This way I can see how well I am progressing and how often I am going to the gym. For some reason, I am motivated to go, just so I can X the date. Stick out tongue

I also aim for 3 days a week at the gym. It's not a lot, but it is enough to get me going right now and I will up it later when I start to plateau.

  • Have you checked out sparkpeople.com?  It's kinda like WW but it's FREE!  They've got places to enter what you've eaten (and it calculates the calories for you), your workout times (and intensity) as well as recipes and message boards.  Oh yeah, and a weight tracker.  I've been doing it for 3 weeks and have lost 7 pounds - haven't been really "on it" in the last week or so since Sarah and I have been sick.  Once we feel better I'll get back to it.  Check it out!

  • I'm not big on diets, going on one always makes me want the bad food. Something about knowing I can't makes me want it more. I do have the 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels, it's great. A lot of the girls on here would recommend it too. It's not time consuming and I've lost about 5 lbs between doing it and moving. Not too shabby. Sparkpeople is a great resource too.
