How's Peoria doing? DH found out last week that he has to take 10 days of vacation in July because they're shutting the plant down. This morning he called to tell me that he has to take off another week in March. Unfortunately, he doesn't have enough vacation to cover this time as well, which means he'll have at least one week where he isn't paid.
On a positive note, they had 19 truck orders for his line a week or so ago! The plant has laid off 2/3 of their workers, but the remaining 1/3 are keeping busy!
I hope the economy picks up soon!
Re: Caterpillar
Everyone is bitter in Peoria due to Caterpillar. Tons of family and friends were asking me if everything is okay on my front. I've seen/heard a bit more talk (even at the Verizon store) about people wanting to be a bit more cautious and people being nervous as they can't find work due to Cat not getting alot of business right now.
Thus far, DH's team is safe (but they had alot of agency workers let go, so there is more than enough work to go around now... job security now?). Had a co-worker who has a husband up in Mossville, and they are much more nervous, but know that forced vacation is coming up.
And I really wanted to go to Mexico this year. Boo
The people who are laid off at our plant are supposedly being called back next week. DH isn't so sure it's a good thing. They got an e-mail yesterday explaining indefinite layoffs. DH said that workers had to be working at the plant to be laid off like that. They're worried that Decatur is getting ready to do a big layoff.
DH is so nervous that we're considering not buying the house we want just so we can keep our downpayment in our savings account.
We walked away from the house.
1200 people were laid off today at the Decatur plant.
