flabbergasted....

So, I had an Old Navy package delivered to my work. I used to have all my packages delivered to my office, butnow that there's almost always someone at my house, I have things delivered there instead.

For some reason, I decided to have it sent to work, since there's DEFINITELY always someone here to sign for things I figured it would be safe. It was supposed to arrive yesterday, I tracked the package last night and it said that there was no one available to receive the package, so a 2nd attempt would be made today. I thought it was kind of funny that that's how it turned out.

So the package arrives today and was signed for by our Shop Manager. The office manager brought it into my office, and laughed and asked me if "ordered an empty box". I laughed with her and wondered how light 3 pairs of pants, 2 sweaters and 4 tops really could be. Well, they were light as air! 'cuz that's all that was in there. WTF? It was obvious that someone had ripped open the box and taped it back up with clear packing tape. There wasn't even a pcking slip left inside! So much for using work for safe delivery. I'm assuming this person will just try to return the goods and pocket the money or get store credit. (is it a sign of the times?)

I promptly got on the phone with Old Navy, and of course they couldn't resend the items, because they were completely sold out of everything I wanted! The ON lady was super nice and kept apologizing, and it wasn't even their fault. So they refunded all my money and sent me an online coupon for free shipping and 20% off my next order. Then I called UPS to file a complaint, and they just acted like this was a regular occurence. The lady wasn't just indifferent, she was downright rude.

The office manager told me we've had the same UPS guy at this office for years, so next time he comes in(probably this afternoon) I'll be able to talk with him about it too. It's just weird. And I was soooo looking forward to some new clothes. I really needed them! Tongue Tied

Re: flabbergasted....

  • OMG!  This is awful!  Do you think it happened somewhere between shipping at ON to UPS?  That's just wrong!  Sorry, glad you got money back, since you don't have items to show for it.  :-|
  • Wow! It definitely sounds like UPS was responsible!  What bastards.  Sorry you're out some new stuff, but at least ON came through for you.
  • That's horrible!  I had a similar situation a couple of years ago with a package from UPS except my missing item was a laptop. Luckily I noticed that something didn't seem right when I went to sign for it and the driver and I opened it up and were able to report it right away. It turned out that there was a huge theft ring going on at UPS. I have a friend that is a UPS supervisor and  he says that it's a very common problem.

  • We had an issue with FedEx over Christmas.  My parents ordered a water table for our son for Christmas.  I didn't realize they'd order it so wasn't expecting it.  After a couple of weeks, my Mom asked about it.  We hadn't received it and the FedEx online tracking system said it was in the Carson storage facilitiy.  I called, spoke to someone and they said, 'hmm, we seem to have lost it, you'll have to file a report with the sender'.  So, we're guessing that someone in the FedEx system decided that they wanted a water table for their kid!  And, of course, the item was out of stock & is now back ordered.  Nice.
  • That is terrible!!! I have heard of a couple of people having their package stolen or "lost" thru UPS due to the theft that was going on they have been losing a lot of business.

  • Oh that is just terrible.  I am so sorry that happened. Good thing the lady was nice enough to refund the money.

And UPS can be just aweful sometimes.  I remember once I ordered something from a paper website.  I had it delievered to my house.  1st attempt there was no one to sign.  I waited for the second attempt and it never happened.  I went on the website to re-route the package to my dad's to find out it was delivered to another address.

Turned out that the UPS delivery guy was use to me re-routing my packages and decided on his own to re-reoute my package with no authorization from me.  Not only that, but he send it to a completely different address.  Same block as my dad's but 3 blocks away.  I called the company I ordered from and they said they could do nothing.  I called UPS and asked why it was re-routed.  I was told that the driver looked up my previous packages to be "helpful".  Yeah, helpful.  I lost my package.   I was so upset. Luckily I had explained everything to the place I ordered from, as did UPS, and they refunded my money back for my purchase.  All but the shipping cost because they said that was UPS's responibility.  And did they refund me the shipping cost... nope!

  • thanks for all your responses ladies. It sounds like this does happen a lot. That's awful! Luckily I caught the right customer service person at the right moment - because she refunded my shipping costs too. I guess you just have to know when to be nice and cordial and when to be firm(which doesn't always mean anything anyway). I was the former, because I knew it wasn't ON's fault, but it could have been an entirely different outcome had I spoken with a different rep.
  • It doesn't happen with only UPS it happens with DHL too!

I order stuff through dell.com, & they use DHL.

    1. I ordered a car charger for my laptop, I waited & waited all day and nothing was delivered, I checked the web site & it said it was delivered to my house. ?I got on the phone with DHL and told them what was going on, they were very nice about it and were trying to contact the driver. ?I also contacted dell who was ready to ship out a new one at the drop of a hat, but it wasn't going to be delivered in time for my trip, so they were going to refund my $$$, me?being?the honest person that I am, told them to hold off, got a claim #, and said I would call them back after I talk to DHL again. ?In the meantime I took a walk to all of my neighbor's porches (I was new & didn't know them yet), I found my package a few houses down. ?I was so livid and called back DHL, the terminal manager called me an was very apologetic. ?I called Dell and told them it was resolved.

    2. I ordered a memory card from Dell, I waited for it again it was a nice day & I had my front door open all day, nothing. ?I checked the website and it said an attempt was made, but no one was home. Huh? ?SO I called DHL, was so mad, they were so apologetic. ?I got a call from the terminal manager again, he apologized and assured me I would have it before 8:30 the next morning. I did get it.

    ?Man these delivery guys!!!?

  • That seriously sucks! And now good people have to eat the difference!  IN this market, that hurts! This past christmas someone took the liberty of opening up all of my Grandma's christmas cards. When her mail arrived her cards were rubber banded together! What's wrong with people?
  • That totally sucks.  I would be miffed.  At least Old Navy was apologetic, it's hard to get anyone to take responsibility sometimes (even if it's not their direct fault).  When I worked in retail, I always took responsibility and felt as though I was apologizing all the time!
