More ?? about insurance

I saw the post below and I am currently getting quotes for our homeowners ins. which we are closing on the house in a few weeks. Has anyone used Allstate-for auto,Travelers-for auto, Home Wise or St. Johns for home ins? I appreciate any feedback, I read some online reviews and seems like all had negative things to say and I have to wonder, it seems like the only people that write the reviews are those that had bad experiences.

Thanks for the help!

Re: More ?? about insurance

  • I used to have Allstate for everything... but they dropped my homeowners policy (I never filed a claim), they told me they had to cancel a certain number of policies and they chose "random" accounts having nothing to do with claims, etc.  Anyway, I told them to cancel the rest of my policies (3 car policies, and 2 life insurance policies) b/c if they didn't want my business for homeowners insurance I wouldn't have my other policies with them as well.

In any case, I ended up going with St. Johns for homeowner ins (and Geico for car).  Their rates were even a little better than what I was paying Allstate for the same coverage!  I haven't had to file any claims with them either so I can't say anything about customer service, etc... but I at least could say that their rates were competitive.

  • We have had Allstate car insurance for the past 10 years but I've recently gotten quotes that are much lower for the same or even more coverage. The first better quote was from Geico and I was saving $200/yr and the one we are going with is Encompass (a subsidary of Allstate) and we're increasing our coverages and lowering our deductible and still saving over $100/yr. We use Tower Hill for our homeowners insurance and we have a $500 hurricane deductible and pay $725/yr for an 1845 sq ft home in Osceola County. My parents use the same comapny and have basically the same coverage but in Orange County. They pay $1200/yr
  • We have state farm for car, and life insurance... and St. Johns for home owners. We just bought the house and its $475 for the yr. our house is 1800sft. My Dh's uncles both have St.Johns too.
  • I work at a financial firm that helps middle income families save money on auto, home, life insurance and much more. Travelers, Allstate are very good companies and two of the many companies i work with. Send me a message if you need help.
  • We recently purchased our home in November.  We had Geico for auto, but when we went with St John's for the home we changed the car policy to Allstate because our agent serves both companies and gave us a huge discount.  Now I am paying for 3 cars what I was paying for 2 under geico and our homeowner's policy is about $550 for a 1470 sq ft home w/ pool.  I have been pleased with both companies so far, but we'll find out how it goes if/when we file a claim.
