? re: apt rental contracts

So earlier I mentioned how I really didn't have a vent well I got a little one now. ha  We moved into our place on 1/16 and paid for a full months rent and per our contract it stated that Feb rent would be prorated and we would only have to pay for a partial month since we moved in mid Jan.  Today we get a letter on the door with the adjusted prorate amount which is almost $100 more!  Apparently they screwed up on the contract and didn't figure the right amount so now we have to pay this new amount (which on the contract they didn't even put in our correct apt #!)  We called the office and they said we can fight it if we want?  Well what the heck can we do??  Any advise would be appreciated!

Re: ? re: apt rental contracts

  • i would say FIGHT IT!

if its not in the contract you should def. not back down.

  • A contract is a contract...I'd pay what the contract says.
  • Pay the prorated amount and enclose a letter with the check with a cordial explanation, and a copy of the contract.  Circle the amount they originally told you you would pay in February.

In the "FOR" line in the check, write "Rental Payment for February 2009."   Always write in "for" line.  It's easy evidence if there is a dispute later.
