Va-cay in Cali

Hey Fellow Nesties!

I'm from St. Louis so I hope that I'm posting in the right place.  My DH and I would like to take a vacation to San Franciso and Cali wine regions this September and we're trying to figure out budgeting now.  We really know nothing about the area but are really excited to visit.  Any suggestions for hotels, B&Bs resturants, etc in the area?  We want to have fun and explore, but are also trying to stay on a somewhat modest budget, so any insider tips are much appreciated.  Also, we will most likely be spending our 1-year anniversary in San Fran, so any romantic spot recs would be helpful as well.  TIH!

Katie

Re: Va-cay in Cali

  • The NorCal board would be best for questions about San Francisco and the Napa/Sonoma wine area.  If you are interested in the central coast wine region (it's 3-5 hours south of SF and covers Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Ynez, and Santa Barbara), this is the place!
  • SF has some really romantic restaurants.

The Starlight Room is really romantic. It has a great view of the city.

  • We honeymooned in San Francisco, and had a wonderful time.  We stayed at Inn 1890, which is walking distance to Golden Gate Park.  We didn't really seek out anything romantic (I couldn't even tell you the names of the restaurants we visited!), but I think it's a great choice!

And I second the San Luis Obispo/Santa Ynez/Paso Robles wine region...not that I'm biased or anything.  Big Smile  There's a really neat b&b called Villa Toscana in Paso Robles, and I've heard good things about The Garden Street Inn in downtown San Luis Obispo.  There's also Sycamore Springs in Avila Beach (never stayed there, but the setting is very romantic and their restaurant is fabulous!).  Of course, if you're up for some kitschy fun, there's always The Madonna Inn (the place with the waterfall in the men's restroom).

    Enjoy your trip!
