Hey Megan! DH and I have expanded our home search and are thinking about the Dillsburg area. I know you grew up there, so fill me in about the area and schools! (and anyone else who lives there currently, feel free to jump in!)
What areas are good to live in? Which ones are bad?
What other areas on the West Shore are good to live in? I need to be within 20-25 minutes or so of Harrisburg City (for work reasons - I get called out at night and whatnot), so let me know ladies! TIA!
Re: ***bridez2b*** (and others, feel free to jump in!)
I grew up in Dillsburg too, my family has lived there for several generations. It's definitely home to me and I love going back there.
It's definitely a growing area that has really spread out. What areas are you considering for homes? Megan and I both went to Northern school district and it's a decent school district and has a good reputation. Both of my parents are still involved in the school and aside from the normal types of issues, things are still pretty good. I had good teachers there and had a nice range of activities. Having talked to some teachers there recently, they still have an issue with less AP courses, but they are working on the curriculum.
I would also look at other school districts in the area like Mechanicsburg. They can range in size a lot but there are some other good ones on the West Shore too.
Good luck!
Hey Kirstin! Stacey gave a good recap. It is a great area that still feels like home to me and has really expanded over the past decade or so. There are a lot of new developments going up in nice (but not too big) neighborhoods, as well as older homes. Dillsburg dosen't have a ton of turn-over in my opinion, but I do see homes for sale that aren't brand new, just not as nearly as I do down here in Maryland. If you're thinking of schools for future kids, I'd look in the areas that feed in to Dillsburg Elementary or South Mountain Elementary. I wouldn't hesitate to send my kids to either school. Northern Elementary is a good school as well, and they've even done a new addition although I haven't seen it. That is the oldest of the three, and South Mountain was built about 8 years ago maybe. I'd actually love to go back and teach at one of the schools. Some of my old teachers are still there, but a lot of newer ones as well.?
I'd also suggest looking into Mechanicsburg and areas on the West Shore. We do talk about moving back, and if it ever happens we'll be looking in the Dillsburg, Mechanicsburg, Carlisle, Hershey area.
GL!?
