Tax Poll!

1) Do you do your own taxes?

2) Are you an early file-er or are you standing in line at the post office in april?

3) What are you doing with your refund (if you get one)?

Re: Tax Poll!

  • 1) Do you do your own taxes?  yup, via turbo tax which we get from my dad for free :) its a good deal!

    2) Are you an early file-er or are you standing in line at the post office in april? EARLY! the second i get all the documentation in, they are e-filed. i actually filed mine a week ago and its killing me that we're still waiting on a W2 for andrea's...

    3) What are you doing with your refund (if you get one)? a small amount is going towards spending $$ for the cruise, then paying off all ccs, and the rest will be going in the baby fund (making it fully funded!)

  • 1) Do you do your own taxes? Heck no!  I live in one state and own a home in another. I don't have the slightest clue how to deal with that.

    2) Are you an early file-er or are you standing in line at the post office in april? Middle.  I'm waiting for one bank interest statement and then I'll make an appointment.

    3) What are you doing with your refund (if you get one)? Hmm...K and I are both taking $250 to pay off our new front door.  Then the rest will go to pay down cc debt.  Well....I might set a few hundred aside for K's graduation celebration.  We'll see - depends on what I get :-)

  • 1) yes, we both do our own using taxact. it's easy and cheap and very fast.

    2) i tend to be an early filer, although i got my w2 at the end of last week and haven't done it yet. c is usually earlier than me (she tends to get her w2 before me), but she's put it off this year.

    3) i'm putting my refund toward some debt we have. i may put a little bit into my savings as well.

have you ever tried turbo tax or tax act? the programs would easily walk you through this - not sayin using an accountant is bad - just as an fyi :)

I'm sure either program would work, but to be completely honest I just don't 'get' this stuff.  So for me, piece of mind is worth the $100ish I have to pay the accountant.

  • I use TurboTax from my dad as well :)

We file as early as possible. I'm waiting on a 1099 that should come by Feb 14, so we'll be doing them that weekend.

I am TERRIFIED because I withheld single-2 this year b/c i got like 2k back last yr withholding single-1, but now my W2 looks screwy b/c of all my tuition remission. I'm hoping my student loan interest is enough to offset it, and if I do owe, I'm guessing C's refund should cover it (since we're putting the mortgage interest on hers to itemize it). But I'm still nervous.

If we do wind up with a significant refund, we'll prob take $100 out to eat, and split the rest more or less equally between the mortgage and our student loans.

  • 1) we have an accountant do them. We always need them to run various scenarios of who takes the house, the kids (split them or take both), etc. Plus L always has some outside income and then the taxes of our nanny.

     2)  We file when we have everything in. I am waiting for L to get her stuff together so I can fill out the accountant's planner. Hopefully, I can do it next week.

     3)   I need to buy a new laptop.  Mine died last week and now I am laptop sharing which I hate. :)  Other than that, it'll go into savings.

Yes.  I use TaxAct online every year.  It's FREE.

    2) Are you an early file-er or are you standing in line at the post office in april?  I file as soon as I get my W-2's.

    3) What are you doing with your refund (if you get one)?
I will definitely get one and it will be spent on baby making.

I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • 1. turbo tax online!

    2. We do them as early as possible.  We already have our refunds :)

    3. Um... they are aleady spent.  We paid down two CCs (just down- not off- but still!!!) and bought a few things off our registry that we needed (I mean wanted). I can't wait until we're down to one!  It's so going to happen in the next few months and I'm gonna AW all over town so just get ready.

  • 1) Do you do your own taxes? No way! Too scary.

    2) Are you an early file-er or are you standing in line at the post office in april? Early but I am still waiting on a W2, ugh

    3) What are you doing with your refund (if you get one)? In a perfect world we would put aside a big chunk to continue treatment with our new RE. I am not sure though. It depends on how much we are getting.

  • 1. T does my taxes for me, shes so smart and i am seriously lacking when it comes to numbers.

    2. Early efile-er H&R TaxCut Free Edition. Show me the money!

    3. Well i'm only getting like $700 this year so most of it will probably go to CC debt and putting a little away for a rainy day.

  • 1. Being married to an accountant has its perks.

    2. We are in the middle.  We just got the last of our paperwork in - they're a work in progress right now.

    3. At least C will get a refund this year, and it's going directy to baby/house savings!

  • 1) Yes, I do my own taxes. When I was doing only my own taxes, I did them by hand, poring through the tax law for hours on end and filling out paper forms. Once I started doing Sylvia's taxes as well as my own, I caved and started using Turbo Tax. Still trying to get used to trusting the machine, though...

    2) I am a habitual extension-filer. Trying to get better about that, though.

    3) I do plan to get a refund. I know I should adjust things so I'm not loaning money to the government for free, but I don't mind the windfall, even if it is a fake one. The refund is going to pay off the new roof. Anything beyond that is going into savings.

  • 1. Carol does our taxes.

    2. We usually file early, but haven't gotten on it yet. Maybe this weekend.

    3. Who knows if we will get anything back. Both of us working two jobs actually hurts us when it comes to taxes. If there is anything left it will probably go into savings for when the baby comes.
