Ugh...frustrated w/ my weight

As I have mentioned before, I am participating in Scale Back Alabama at work.  I just weighed in and after 4 weeks, I'm right back where I started.  I went from this weight, to losing a tenth of a pound, maintaining that weight for two weeks, and now I'm back.  I work my a$$ off at the gym and I have been staying well within my calorie range and I don't understand it.  I might as well take my ticker down since it's not moving.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Siggy coming soon....

Re: Ugh...frustrated w/ my weight

  • I'm not doing scale back alabama but I just finished my 2nd adventure bootcamp and weight-wise..i'm the same weight I was when I did my first camp in Sept. but last week when we did our final weigh-in i lost body fat and gained muscle so that could be what's happening to you. Don't get discouraged..sometimes it takes a little more than 4 weeks to see any results..it did for me
  • I completely understand, last year at the end of scale back I had only lost 5 lbs, but I lost fat and gained muscle.  Have you been to sparkpeople.com?  They have tons of articles and all that might help.
  • This is the story of my life!!!  I'm always up and down and I stay frustrated at my weight.  Wendy, you're not alone, LOL.
  • I feel ya... but don't give up... It will happen!
  • Yeah I think ya'll are right it probably is just muscle.  I'm just impatient I suppose.

  • Hang in there and keep working hard.  It will come with time.
  • I would talk to your trainer about it.  Maybe he/she can change up your routine and add more cardio.

Good luck and try not to get discouraged.

  • As odd as it may sound, if you are busting your a$$ at the gym, you might want to try eating on the higher end of your calories.  I do Weight Watchers, and I earn points for activity.  I'm supposed to eat those extra points on the same day as I earn them, because your body needs the fuel.  I know, it sounds crazy, but you might want to give it a try.

Also, what kind of calories are you eating?  Are you eating a bunch of snacky foods/low calorie chips, snacks, carby type things?  Those end up being empty calories, in a sense.  You might want to consider adding more protien and fiber if you can.

I feel your pain.  I've been at the same weight for almost a year now, despite doing WW and exercising.  I really want to just give up sometimes.

  • Don't get discouraged and hang in there! Right Hug

According to my trainer I need to eat 1200 calories a day.  I usually stay more between 1250-1300.  I guess I'll have to ask him if I need to add more during the day.

Here is what I have today as an example of what I normally eat:

Breakfast: Special K fruit and yogurt (dry)

Snack #1: cheese-its (I know not the best)

Lunch: PB & J (natural pb and sugar-free preserves on whole wheat bread) and sun chips

Snack #2: apples and pb (not the natural kind)

I have no clue what's for dinner.

I know I need to add more fruits and veggies, but I'm having a hard time jumping on the veggie bandwagon.

  • I agree with PP's that you might not be eating enough. You have to find the balance of calories vs. working out for your body to realize that you're not starving or overworking yourself.

Also, my personal trainer told me that if you go from being fairly inactive to working out a lot, your muscles will retain water for a little while and that will attribute to the weight gain.

Also, muscle weighs more than fat. If you've been working out consistently for the past few weeks, you could be gaining muscle mass.

I suggest that you buy a measuring tape and start measuring instead of weighing :) That's what I'm doing. I gained 3lbs the week I started cross fit, even though I was eating well and my clothes were beginning to loosen up. After my PT told me what he did about my muscles retaining water, I started measuring instead. HTH! :)

  • Thanks everyone.

I've been considering getting measuring tape.  I feel like I'll see more results that way then I will on the scale, as it frustrates the heck out of me. lol
