Concerned about budget cuts?
I was just curious to know if anyone is concerned about their job/dh's job being impacted by the upcoming budget cuts.
I work in education and my position is brand new. If anyone is up on the chopping board because of budget cuts...it's me! I'm really hoping the govenor does not cut education!
Re: Concerned about budget cuts?
We got the "We're FINE! Rah-rah-sis-boom-bah! Gooooo TEAM!" speech last week, but this week got the "Sorry folks. No raise. No bonus. Oh and we didn't bring on the person we hired either so we don't need to fire any of you....but don't be worried! Yeaaaa! Gooo team?...Wa...hoo?" speech.
When one of your biggest clients gets bought out, and then starts pulling buisness, it doesn't bode well.
We were told we're fine until about 3rd quarter. But I'm thinking after third quarter, then what?
Luckily, I don't have to worry too much, since I'm in the Healthcare industry. As long as we can keep our Medicare funding the same, we're good to go.
But DH is in manufacturing, so that could possibly end up being bad, but lately they have actually been busy. I don't get it, I don't ask why, I just take the paycheck and pray for more of the same!
Neither of us work for the state so we don't have to worry. I'll find out how it is when I try to get a job next winter for a school district.
MIL works for the state and was told that she might have to have 3 days a week off a month, but she didn't care about that. She is very thankful that she doesn't have to worry about it.
I am not worried about the cuts for my job even though I work in education. Speech therapists are in such high demand and in fact we are down several positions.
Dh's job is stable for now...his company just had some layoffs, but his department continues to make money. However, with this economy, you never know.
Scary to think about it.
Ugh... we just had a special faculty meeting today for our principal to bring us up to speed on the current state of the budget progress (for fiscal year '10) per the superintendent's direction. Things are looking grim - we're getting something like $6.9 mil. LESS this year than we did last year from county, etc. - it's not pretty what they're considering. Thankfully, my job is safe, but I *am* concerned about what this could do to what we pay in our insurance... that could hurt a bit, but I keep trying to keep focus of the fact that no matter WHAT I'm paying in on that, I'm lucky to even HAVE a job with a salary and benefits in today's economy. DH and I are trying to be reasonable about things; it's just difficult not to get stressed since I'm the sole income with DH in seminary. We'll be fine - I know this - but it's still depressing to sit through and hear about positions being excessed, furloughing for a day, etc.
Fingers crossed for everyone who could be facing these sorts of situations!
... every single day of forever.
I love working for county government. As there's only one of my position in the whole agency (and county...), and it's vital to safety in the county, i'm golden. plus i got my 4%, which was really nice.
But... it is in the back of my mind allllllllll the time (just in case...)
I work for the state so it's definitely a concern. Luckily, the new position I was just hired for is a position that is required to be filled, so my job should be safe at least. That doesn't say anything for my pay or my benefits if Rendell gets his way with the unions.
DH, on the other hand, has been out of work for a few months. The job market doesn't look promising and his unemployment will run out soon. Definitely concerned about that
Do you work for the state? From my "inside source" Department of Ed is going to loose about 200 jobs. This is JUST Rendell proposals, so I am sure in the end it will be much less. He will play hardball at first and meet the unions/republicans in the middle.
From what I hear Labor and Industory is going to be hardest hit, as well as DPW and the Excutive offices.
