I can laugh now, wasn't funny at the time
So, back story: I had never been a big jewelry person. So after I got engaged I would never take off my ring to sleep, wash hands, take a bath, nothing. I just figured diamonds could handle that kind of stuff and I knew nothing about taking care of jewelry since I never really wore any. The girls at work started telling me how bad it was for my ring to keep it on while I would wash my hands, so I started to remove my ring to wash my hands at home and at work.
Soooo... you may know where this is going. A couple weeks ago at work I took off my rings to wash my hands and one of them flew out of my hand and went into the toilet as it flushed. It was like slow motion. I saw it fly into the toilet and then it was gone. So... I was totally freaking out. Everyone kept telling me that there was no hope to get it back and that the plummber wouldn't be able to get it, so pretty much "get over it, it's a lost cause. I had already called DH and told him what had happened and that the ring was long gone. Then, one of my male coworkers suggested that I should try to fish it out.
Girls, I stuck my hand down the toilet(with a few plastic bags over it) and it was gross and I cried, but I retrieved my ring:)
Re: a laugh at my expense
Hooray! That is funny... and I'm amazed that you got your ring after it flushed!!!! Thank goodness!
I have a similar story.... (gosh, I cannot believe I am about to tell this- it is NOT classy!)
So after my bff's wedding where I had been forced to drink too many glasses or wine, cosmo's, whatever... I got a little sick. And threw up (in the toilet) of our hotel room. I was wearing my fav earrings that I wore during OUR wedding. Yup... one fell off. And Dh fished it out, from the vomit filled toilet.
The things we do for our diamonds!!! KLASSY!!!!?
Oh you guys! Those are awful stories!! LMAO.
I am so paranoid about losing my rings down the drain in the master bath since I take my jewelry off there so I use a lot of these (they get gross):
i am like you. i NEVER take my rings off. it just makes me have to clean it that much more. i am so glad you got your ring back though.
and lauren, now that is true love!
Lauren- You know you have a good guy when he will stick his hand in your vomit for your earring!
I'm glad you both got your diamonds back!
My stories are both from childhood. (My daddy was a jewelry salesman when I was growing up so my first diamond ring came when I was about 2 months old.) When I was about 2 I swallowed that little diamond ring and my mom had the joy of having to fish it out of my diaper...after about a week of 'watching' for it. Then about a year later I wore it (like you every day every where) to daycare and it slipped off my finger and I flushed it down the toilet. That was it for that ring. My daddy, God bless him, got me an exact duplicate about a week later. My mom almost killed him for it because she swore whe would never have to deal with that again! *giggle*
